Too lazy to search, but how many here have gone from a 5D4 to the R?

I'm seriously considering selling my 5D4. Mostly for the weight factor. I really want to carry a real camera with me everyday but the 5D4 is too big (not to mention too heavy) to fit nicely in my everyday backpack.

Any regrets? Any challenges? Glad you made the jump?

I sold my 5D4...

Love the R, no regrets whatsoever. I had the 5D4 and expected the R too compliment it. So happy with the R I sold the 5D4 6 weeks after buying the R.

As far as I am concerned the only thing the R gives up to the 5D4 is AFC frame rate, and dual card, neither of which are an issue for my photography. I also have an 80D and that satisfies the AFC frame rate if I do need it.

Only challenge is stock piling cash for RF lenses ;-)a

I did, but not by choice. My 5D IV got soaked in a fresh water pond.

Just out of curiosity, what is everyone's "go to" lens on their R? Personally I haven't got to the point of use I had with my 5d2 yet so I haven't got a favorite combo yet.

With my 5dmkii it was with the 24-105 f/4L is (version 1) and I've worn it's rubber ring down a bit.

I'm thinking of something to that effect for the R also or perhaps the 24-70 (was holding out hope for an is version).

You're in luck! The RF24-70/2.8 will have IS. It's been announced to come out this year, but they haven't said when.

The RF24-105 is a great lens and if the f/4 is good enough for your purposes, I'm sure you'd be happy with it.

I've really been enjoying the RF 24-105mm f/4L IS. The image quality is excellent and it's a reasonable size and weight to match the EOS R's body size. Any comparable EF lens will be much longer due to the necessary EF-RF mount adapter on top of the size of the lens itself.

I haven't used the RF 24-105 but have seen a lot of impressive results from it. I myself love using the 28-70 (my only RF lens). I will likely trade in my 70-200 II for the RF version when it's released and available.

Perfectly happy with my RF 24-105. Great size and excellent image quality. ;-)a
But I must say, every one of the lenses I own give me great results, even the 50 stm 1.8.

I thought I seen something about that a while back, I'd be afraid of the price though, I could see it creeping into the 2500+ dollar mark.

Which I suppose wouldn't be too bad.

Pretty much my boat exactly, except I skipped the IV from the III and went directly to the R and the 80D.

I switched from a 5D3. I was considering a 5D4 originally for other reasons, but then the R was released. Once I held the R in my hand I knew I was done with my 5D. The R is solid but compact. It's a great size for me. A 5D on my shoulder all day was like carrying a boat anchor. I barley notice the R.

It probably will be close to that initially, then start creeping down. Maybe not much over $2k by Christmas.

According to CPW, it looks like the 24-70/2.8ii debuted at $2300 and went down several hundred within a year. The early adopters always pay extra to get the toys first. But I don't see it coming out cheaper than the non-IS 24-70/2.8ii, with IS being added and (presumably) an even-better formula.

I have not sold my 5dmk4 as dual cards is the primary reason why. Almost bullet proof AF using red focus assist during events is another reason.

I use the spider holster and I can hold a 1dxmk2 all day long if I had too.

If your a casual shooter or do not mind owning a single card slot camera body the EOS R is great. I've been looking at it with some temptation but I'm just holding out.

Since I also own the Sony A73 this gives me the choice of using my Canon glass with adapter. I can also use my Sony E mount glass so I can have quiet auto focus during video. This is a amazing interim solution as I'm floored with the new VER 3.0 firmware too.

This has nothing to do with brand loyalty. I just do not want to buy single card bodies even for casual use lately.

EOS R with dual card slow will definitely be in my gear bag.

Thanks to all those who responded. One card slot does not bother me. The weight and size difference is enough for me to switch. I'm also not a pro doing weddings for example.

Another question, I guess I can google, but has anyone have issues with 3rd party glass?

Define “issue”....

All mine works as well on the R as they did on my 5D4/80D. There is a well known problem with some Tamron lenses producing concentric rings in the frame if you have in body correction turned on while using them. Turn it off and they go away, just apply the lens profile in post if needed.

That is a Tamron problem though, not a camera problem. I don’t have any Sigma lenses, so can’t speak to them.
