Thank you all for taking the time to share your thoughts about the new EOS R.
Owners.... some questions/concerns.
I've gone through a number of videos and blog posts, many have positive things to say about the new camera. Some, like Matt's video posted in this thread, has me concerned about making the leap. He had issues with the flash sync speed. He had to drop the camera to 1/125th of a second. The manual shows a few settings for the sync speeds... with a fixed of 1/200th. Any issues shooting 1/200th a sec using strobes? Maybe Matt being unfamiliar with the camera system, didn't have the settings properly adjusted? He also struggled with what appeared the camera going to sleep as far as the autofocus was concerned.
Another issue people have mentioned is banding. I'm not one to push an image 5-6 stops to bring an image from severely underexposed to a proper exposure. Any issues pushing the shadows up a couple of stops at mosts? Any banding?
Focusing issues? A recent video from a pro wedding photographer raved about the autofocus, then I see something about it not being able to track moving subjects very well. Hmmm LOL
I haven't shot in 3 years... I'm looking to purchase a new setup in a few months. I've gone from the 20D>5D>5DII>5DIII>5Ds over the years and have enjoyed each camera. I'd like to make the leap to a mirrorless system (I think lol) to take advantage of some of the new tech/features. Sony has done very well with the A7 series and with Nikon coming out with the Z7, things are getting very interesting and it's making my decision to stay with Canon or jump brands very difficult. I like the thought if in-camera image stabilzation.. something the Canon is lacking. But, I've used tripods and monopods forever...not having it would not be a deal breaker. I'm more concerned about the main functions of the camera...image quality, AF, build, ergonomics, etc.
So... if you have a minute and would like to address the questions above, I'd appreciate it
Also, what have you loved about the camera so far and what would you like to have seen done differently.
Thanks,
Hatch
