You know Levina I'm finding this really curious. Last year Mike (umphotography) asked Sony and Canon owners about their experiences. It just so happened at the time that my friend had bought an A9 and we were shooting together regularly and I used the A9 at least once weekly for about 4 months with native glass. Mostly wildlife photography. I'd still pick the 1DxII AF over the A9 any day but in good light the A9 was competitive. When the light got bad however I often had better results even with the 7D2. This kind of performance drop in bad light has an effect on all cameras but in my experience it seems more pronounced on mirrorless bodies. I noticed the same thing with my Fuji bodies as well. This was just my personal experience. It is obvious that many people get the results they need with these bodies so I'm not attempting to take away from that.
I was out with my 1DIV yesterday. Light was bad but the camera had no problem seeing and focusing on a female blackbird under the canopy (as in extra dark spot). But if even the A9 can't do this as well, then mirrorless maybe still has some catching up to do?
Reading Jeff's experience, I'm scratching my head. I would LOVE to buy this camera as I am sooo ready to go to something new, something with all the new tech on board, but although I don't shoot a lot of birds these days, they are still my first love and the camera has to be able. I think I will need to wait a bit longer.
