WOW, this is gorgeous! If you don't mind me asking, how did you accomplish this? I've done long exposures during the day before but nothing like this.

Thanks Mistabernie. This one is actually a blend of two exposures, 2 minutes at IS0 2000 and f4 for the foreground and 25 seconds at ISO 6400 and f2.8 for the sky.

You can do it quite easily in one shot but to expose properly for the sky you generally won't get great detail in the foreground.

The R was pretty handy for bulb mode. You could either set a timer for the duration you require or you could just start the exposure and the back screen will show you a counter, all you have to do is touch the screen when you're got to the required time and the exposure will stop.

The 50 RF 1.2 doesn’t have a profile in LR yet, correct?

Cheers

Well, I'm now the proud new owner of an R. I seem to only buy crap cameras, my last four have been the 7D, 6D, 7Dii and now the R.

I did some basic adjustments to the set up and headed out in the dark for some astro shots, complete with a new lens that arrived as I was heading out the door lol.

Probably not the best way to acquaint yourself with new kit. It took me a few minutes to work out how to get the camera to take a picture at all (some MF/AF setup issues lol)

Anyway, it seems great so far. A few test shots beforehand revealed just how good (accurate) the AF can be (the main reason I bought it). Gone are the days of MFA frustrations... Yay!

Here's one from last night.

Who else has a hard time seeing their little girls growing up? This is my daughter before heading off to her junior prom.

They do grow up too fast. I posted one earlier in the thread.

This is my daughter holding my foster grand daughter. She will be 23 next week and starting nursing school the week after. :-)

Ummmm NOPE.. The 7D was a super camera… still have mine. Without the 7DII the last 5 years would have been quite uneventful and boring. And you would not have been as amused in the POTN pages as you have been. I did say people had serious trouble trying to shoot it after the release.. because they did. I had more than a few wishing to know just how I could get the images I was getting out of it. and more than a few got quite upset about their difficulties with the 7DII. Its all in the 7DII thread.. its a long read.

yes I remember the 7DII lengthy thread, myself Ive never had an issue with my 7DII. The 7d also was a great camera but I do remember people whinging about noise. I just learned how to process 7D images and generally would expose a little to the right with that camera

Aside from the Leederville one, most of the camera houses aim to rip people off. My friend used to work for the CBD one and left because of how dodgy the manager runs the store.

When I lived in Perth I mainly bought online and even here in Sydney I don't particularly trust a lot of the retailers. Although in QLD, I've got the absolute best service from Camera Pro and would choose them over a local store majority of the time.

Leederville were the high priced quotes but that said they are a great shop

Has anyone used the EF adapter with the samyang / rokinon 14mm? I've really wanted that lens for a long time. I bought the RF 35mm for a walk around but I really wanna get back into wide angle landscape stuff. I had a zenitar 16mm a while back and I loved it.

I got some decent shots with the 7D but it is so much easier with the R and 80D. Knowing the limitations of the tool makes a big difference. My method for landscapes wit the 7D was as follows. ETTR in low contrast conditions and don't include the sky. It limited my options but I wasn't wasting my time in futility trying to make it do something it wasn't good at. It contributed heavily to developing my style. I always liked soft quiet light anyway.

Now I am learning to shoot in sunshine and including the sky with the R. Having usable shadows is wonderful!

I was looking at B&H the other day and there were several Rokinon and similar lenses available with RF mounts now.
