I love the stealthiness of this camera. Flippy screen, touch focus (that's accurate!) and touch screen to take a picture.

This is my eldest feeling very pleased with himself. He's stolen his brother's new cap and put it under his own... He's watching from the sidelines as mum's laying into my youngest for losing his cap.

I'd never have been able to take this with my SLR.

Not a great photo but a great memory of a funny moment... well funny for the two of us anyway

I'm loving my 50 Art now, the accurate focusing is a godsend. Despite lots of MFA and Sigma Dock tweaking I could never get it to behave.

I love the way the light catches the ripples on the dunes, everything seems to be leading to the Milky Way core that almost appears to be erupting out of a mountain.

That's one of the rare times I like an astro shot better without color, but both are excellent.

Very nice astro images. Just curious, why such a wide open f-stop? I’m sure there’s a reason...I’m just not an astro-type photog., so, curious.

Meanwhile, I’ve acquired an R coming from the 1Dx camp. Will be interesting to see how/what it can do. Should have the cam. on Monday...it’s going to be a looong weekend.

Thanks LonelyBoy,. I'm in the same camp, B&W astro seldom pleases me. I was struggling with the colour in this one and eventually tried B&W... I was quite surprised with the result!

Welcome to the club, it will be interesting to see how you like it compared to the 1Dx.

The problem with astro is that the stars move and they don't give up much light. That means the foreground is very dark. There's a balance between trying to get enough light into the sensor to have a decent foreground and not exposing so long that the stars appear as lines instead of dots.

Typically the ISO is up around 6400 and with an ultra wide lens the exposure can't be much more than 30 seconds without causing star trails. Generally you need to have the lens wide open to get a decent exposure.

Gotcha. Thanks for the info. Too much light pollution, around these parts, to get something that clear...but, good info. to have in case some day I'm in a place where I can try such a thing.

As for the move to an R vs 1Dx...it was a tough decision...but, I'm not a sports/wildlife shooter so much. So, figured the 1Dx needed a new home. The price I got on a lightly used R kit saved me some coin, and well, at that point, it was a no brainer. Not to mention the announcement of the RF 85 sealed it for me, personally, as that's really the only lens I use. For now, I'll pair the R with my EF 85 1.2L II via a control ring adapter and snatch up an R equivalent, once I can find one on sale.

I suspect the R will work wonderfully well with those lenses... Enjoy!

I’ve been reading up on the manual. Even then, I’ll be clueless...haha. I’ll just set it to manual, and go from there.

Yes - I used the Topaz DeNoise AI Plug In in PS CC.

Topaz recommend that you use the Plug In on the Raw File before you perform any other processing as the Plug In works best on the Raw sensor data according to Topaz.

Noise is certainly visible on the original Raw file when viewed at 100%, but Topaz does an excellent job of mitigating it without destroying the genuine fine detail, such as seen on the scales of the Green Tree Snake, which was located in a glass cabinet smeared with dirty finger prints and illuminated by horrible mixed lighting.
