I can be wishy washy too. I bought a lens (the first time I went over $1000 on a lens, big deal for me at the time) from a shop that touted a liberal return policy and ended up with remorse and returning it after a few days to go with something else from another seller (this dealer did not offer what I ended up going with). I used it for 2 days, packaged it back up as it came and returned it. You couldn't tell it from new, not a spot or spec on it. When I returned it I got the third degree on why and was treated like a leper.
That was many years ago and it haunts me to this day. Always have to get manager "override" if I try to spend more than some arbitrary amount there now, and for that reason I rarely go there for any big ticket item.
Evidently if anyone actually uses the return policy they question you on future purchases to remind you that they don't "loan" gear. The one reason I would support brick and mortar stores (with their higher prices) over online is for the supposed customer service they offer. If I am not getting that, or essentially being accused of taking advantage of them, then I will go where I can save money.
They went hard on me for that return, and continue to this day over a $1029 lens about 8 years ago. In the past 5-6 years I have squandered north of $15K on bodies and lenses, and only two of them (Canon 7D II and Tamron 85mm) was purchased at that store, and only there because they had special events/ going that offered a special rebate/discounts in addition to the regular rebate.
It is otherwise a good store and I won't name them, but unless I know for absolute certain I will be happy with it and for some reason can't wait for delivery, any big ticket purchases go to Adorama, BHPhoto, Amazon, or cpricewatch.com
This is why you can’t beat B&H. Their return policy is top notch. 30 days with no questions asked assuming the gear is returned in all the right packaging etc.
Another store in Seattle has a 14 day return policy with a minimun 10% restocking fee. They don’t want you retuning anything obviously. I think Kenmore Camera is similar, no? At least that is the feeling I get from them. Frankly I have no idea how local camera stores can stay in business. In fact they don’t. Kenmore and the camera store in downtown Seattle are the only survivors I know of in the area. I don’t even bother looking at Best Buy. Their inventory is garbage.
