I can be wishy washy too. I bought a lens (the first time I went over $1000 on a lens, big deal for me at the time) from a shop that touted a liberal return policy and ended up with remorse and returning it after a few days to go with something else from another seller (this dealer did not offer what I ended up going with). I used it for 2 days, packaged it back up as it came and returned it. You couldn't tell it from new, not a spot or spec on it. When I returned it I got the third degree on why and was treated like a leper.

That was many years ago and it haunts me to this day. Always have to get manager "override" if I try to spend more than some arbitrary amount there now, and for that reason I rarely go there for any big ticket item.

Evidently if anyone actually uses the return policy they question you on future purchases to remind you that they don't "loan" gear. The one reason I would support brick and mortar stores (with their higher prices) over online is for the supposed customer service they offer. If I am not getting that, or essentially being accused of taking advantage of them, then I will go where I can save money.

They went hard on me for that return, and continue to this day over a $1029 lens about 8 years ago. In the past 5-6 years I have squandered north of $15K on bodies and lenses, and only two of them (Canon 7D II and Tamron 85mm) was purchased at that store, and only there because they had special events/ going that offered a special rebate/discounts in addition to the regular rebate.

It is otherwise a good store and I won't name them, but unless I know for absolute certain I will be happy with it and for some reason can't wait for delivery, any big ticket purchases go to Adorama, BHPhoto, Amazon, or cpricewatch.com

This is why you can’t beat B&H. Their return policy is top notch. 30 days with no questions asked assuming the gear is returned in all the right packaging etc.

Another store in Seattle has a 14 day return policy with a minimun 10% restocking fee. They don’t want you retuning anything obviously. I think Kenmore Camera is similar, no? At least that is the feeling I get from them. Frankly I have no idea how local camera stores can stay in business. In fact they don’t. Kenmore and the camera store in downtown Seattle are the only survivors I know of in the area. I don’t even bother looking at Best Buy. Their inventory is garbage.

I don't think I would be very kind to the people behind the counter in your case. I tend to get that evil look in my eye and right way they know the line has been crossed lol I can't even hide it lol

I get it though. I’m guilty. I go touch and feel and get information from the local stores then buy from B&H.

I’m saving 10% on sales tax alone and always free shipping. Is it unfair? Probably but that’s the world we live in.

Henry's here is somewhat the same and use to be 31 days I think..

I think I would have still bought the camera and used it just the same. I took special care with it and made sure it was in as new shape upon return..

I didn't think I was going to return it for most of the week. I mean it was $1000 more than a 7DII for the body.

And they know Canadians are crazy to start with. so don't offer if you don't want to stand behind the store policy's

This is the first time I haven't bought a used or 2nd generation body other than a T2i like 10 years ago.

It is a treat for a change to experience a brand new release, and the new "Revolution.

And not just the body, but the glass.

I got black listed by Best Buy. Some "return monitoring" service flagged me for returning too much and they finally one day said "We'll take this return but if you return anything else we might not take it back." They made me sign a notice. Yes, I returned a fair bit, but I was spending 10-15k a year there I bet. I know a fair bit of the returns were after Thanksgiving. They have the stupid policy where they won't price match Black Friday deals. So on Black Friday, I bought all the same Hue stuff I had just bought a week earlier. I returned the unopened stuff on the original receipts. That was a year ago and this year I doubt I've spent $500 there. I only go there for urgent needs. And even then, I check Office Max, Office Depot and Staples first. They torched the bridge with me. I know at least one other person who had the same issue with them.

The whole thing has helped me curb my spending considerably this year and think more about purchases. I prefer buying from Amazon or B&H or Adorama now.

you guys are so lucky having a test period for new cameras, the ability to return , wow. I have no options where I live like that. I could hire the camera on a weekly basis in the city (which is 500 kilometres from me) but the reality is that I have had to buy and just hope. So far over the years I've purchased 5 DSLRs locally and one online plus two off ebay used. Luckily all of them have been fine. When I got the 7DII I went local because being a new model I thought Id like the backup. I purchased my 5DIII from Hong Kong online because the price was $1000 less than here. That was the most nerve racking time for me. So like I said, the ability you have to test and make a decision on a camera then hand it back is just wonderful, what Id give to have that!!!

To show her what they are i used my daughter put them on so i could show the model i am working with and then i did stupid stuff with photoshop. We ended up doing kida like a remake of a shot on 2015. This can go as version 2 why not... Cant wait to do this in the woods, today was perfect but the model could not do it today

LOL. I will keep this in mind!

I would love to get me a 5DIV. It's just way outside my price range!
Of course the EOS R at 2539 Euro is too expensive as well. Really. But selling my 1D4 and 1D3 would bring it within reach.

Well, I still have my old 40D. The only camera I bought new. Still works just fine. Although after having shot with a 1D body for years, it does feel like a toy and is not really an alternative.
No, I definitely will wait until next year's releases. I'm in no hurry.

Try Panamoz Levina! I use them all the time, they honour their guarantee as well.

Swings and roundabouts. Once we buy we get at least double the warranty.

With a little bit of patience and diligence you can try new gear for close to free. I bought 5D4 last Christmas $3782. I could have sold it after a couple of weeks for that much.
Sony A7R2 and Olly OM-D M1-II (with or without 300 f4) were also cheap enough to buy and resell with little or no loss.

Your right Dave.. This is exactly what I should have done. I wasn't quite finished evaluating the R yet. I'm sure it would have been snapped up in a month or two.

Im not willing to shell out serious money then sell straight up and possibly make a loss. It would not go down too well with the hubby :-P

Man, I would not do that. My 5D4 is of course my MOST used body. It does everything better than any other camera I have, or have owned.
The "R" will get you a good many of the features, but not all. Particularity the AF stuff.

The 5D4 is great for sure. I loved it from the first shot. But I honestly think the RF mount is the future.
