Tamron released an update in 2015 (version 1.3). This was serviced by me for 70-200mm 2.8. EOS R works flawlessly

That update is not in my EOS R and Tamron company just replied a couple days ago. Said the 70-200mm 2.8 VC I bought a few years ago is not on the compatbility list and that they had no solution to offer at the moment. A later "G2" model works, but not every model from what I can tell.

Was the firmware supposed to go to the lens or the body?

My guess is an update from the third party manufacturers, the issues I've seen have been easily solved firmware problems. I know nothing in regards to any actual plans but it seems the issues could be resolved fairly easily. I haven't heard any issues from tamron g2 lenses but both tamron and sigma lenses have had issues in some cases. (Tamron original lenses and sigma 35/1.4 intermittently)

I was curious why the cinor_12 who posted prior to you didn't post a link or whatever here for others too in case they did know of a solution. Bet there's dozens others on this forum who own similar.

It seems that something like this should be fixable. Otherwise, I had thought about getting Canon's mk iii version. One reason I'm holding back though ... if an RF 70-200 is released in the near future, it may be a nice piece to acquire.

I do not know about Tamron official announcement. That's why there is no link. What I know: Service, firmware update 1.1.3 and it works.

The problem started here: https://www.tamron.co.jp …/release_2016/0916_3.html (external link)

Thanks.

I can see where I never owned the 5D mk iv or a few other bodies on the list, it's something I wouldn't notice befor. It may be worth the firmware update anyway. Apparently it just takes shipping the lens to Tamron and they ship it back. They promised the update can work for a 5D mk iv, but apparently you're experiencing success with the EOS R in addition.

The link below has one list I found recently from Tamrom, noting compatible lenses.

The list may grow, but that's what they show today.

Picked up my Canon EOS R last week! Upgraded from a 5D Mark III and couldn't be happier! Using it with my old EF 24-105 F4 using the standard adapter.

Curious, but, anyone with EF-s glass have any pics using one of the better EF-s lenses?

I've got the itch bad. I got a great offer for an EOS R w/24-105 kit. I just need this 5D4 to sell first. I can't extend myself that far at the moment.

My “R” should arrive tomorrow and I will take a few shots and post with 18-135mm and 70-300mm Nano USM lenses.

ETA - after posting, I realized the 70-300mm isn’t an EF-S, but I am going to borrow a friends 17-55mm EF-S f/2.8 and will do some tests shots with it on the “R” and 80D for comparison.

It'll be a bit but let me know which lenses and I can test them for you, I can say it does well with the few crop lenses I've tried so far.

I only have the Canon 18-55mm kit lens for my 550d which i still own as far as Canon crop lenses go, a 11-16mm Tokina and the Samyang 8mm fisheye (all manual).
I can tell you that only with my Canon 18-55mm lens the camera forces crop to x1.6 and it also becomes a 12mp camera as well with no option to at least produce full megapixel shots with this particular lens. I have no idea if it does anything on the video side of things. I am not sure if this happens with all Canon brand efs lenses but it does not happen with my tokina who happens to communicate with the camera for af. With the tokina i am able to use the entire sensor and more importantly make full megapixel pictures with this camera. Here are my options with the 18-55mm attached to it..

I haven’t been an adopter of EF-s lenses, so, you guys/gals that own them know which are the best of breed. I’ll trust your judgement. ;)

The 11-16 is an EF lens and works as such.. used a 55-250 and it worked as a EF-S lens as a crop and very well. I took a few snaps with the 18-135 EF-S STM it was the same.. None looked as clean as any of the L lenses... but that is expected I would think.
