Went on a little walk today around the old abandoned Northern State Mental Hospital outside of Sedro-Woolley WA. Interesting old dairy farm buildings and unexpectedly came across a wandering minstrel.

Not my usual subject matter but was an interesting way to spend a couple hours. A little post processing to add some texture, seemed to match the experience a little better.

Taken with the RF 15-35mm

Actually those were all taken with RF 15-35 2.8L IS. It isn’t in the list yet though, so I picked the next closest lens that was.

Well, I caved. I ordered the grip and another lp-e6n battery (already have an unopened new one) for the R. Hopefully this will give me a bit more stable grip and comfort while using heavier glass.

Expensive hobby... At least I didn't toss in an additional dozen rolls of film and or some RF L glass (yet!)

It does help balancing the camera, what people tend to complain is that the grip is a little girthy compared to the cameras grip. You will notice this shooting in vertical. It doesnt bother me as i tend to shoot vertical using the cameras shutter lol. Only when i need to stabilize myself a little better i use the grips shutter. I got the grip because i hated the size of the camera and it felt super unbalanced in my hand. Grip fixed this for me.

Amazing old structures.
The amount timber that went into building these is mind boggling.
Great to see

I came across a Kenko 1.4x converter that I thought I'd ditched some time ago. I got it to use with my 7D as it fooled the camera, allowing it to focus at F8. It played havoc with MFA though and I hardly ever used it.

I tried it on my 7Dii and it wouldn't work at all.

Well the R's given it a new lease of life with the 100-400ii :-)

It took some stealthy approaching but I'm pretty sure I went unseen...

A Galah family with juveniles dropped by our back garden for drinks from the bird bath, so Junior had a romp around the garden.:-)

I had the Canon Extender EF x1.4 Mk III fitted at the time.

Cheers

Dennis

Birds in flight? Not a problem!

Although perhaps this isn't quite what people have in mind when they mention birds. I saw about 5 flocks worth of these guys yesterday. They were too high to identify by sight, but I could hear them, they made the very distinctive sound of the sandhill crane. I presume headed south for the winter via Colorado, where they take a break to fatten up a little bit before the last leg down to New Mexico.

Me neither. I ordered my stuff 10 days ago. I didn’t know they had a holiday last Monday. It got to JFK last Friday at 5am and hasn’t scanned since...

Customs must be backlogged. They received my 28-70mm on 10/27 and it just now has finally cleared. Hoping for a Saturday delivery...

Stay tuned for cat pictures :-P
