Have you looked at this one? https://www.amazon.com …smid=A2XFVTH12VZC46&psc=1 (external link)

I haven't purchased it but was thinking about it.

I had looked at it, but was unsure how I would feel about the stepped height on the bottom of the camera. While practicality says it shouldn’t matter as I’m holding it for 90% of the shots and on the tripod for the other 10%, it is just odd to see the difference in height. Maybe having it sit off-kilter when I set it down doesn’t matter as much as my OCD brain says it should.

While I agree, let's be honest with one another here. The real question should be, "Do they look $2000US better than my 70-200 2.8 IS G1?" My gut tells me no. YMMV.

For me it is easily worth the upgrade for 1 simple fact - with the retractable zoom, I’ll actually bring this one with me twice as much or more.

My threshold for pain is apparently way better than yours then. Congratulations. If I could justify it, I would in a heartbeat. My R has never seen anything except EF and EF-S glass. I'd just as soon not even know what I'm missing.

Maybe you just never know what you miss, but thousands have used EF glass on the 5DS and 5DS R and never once have I read a complaint that the sensor has outrun the glass. The EOS R is "only" 30 meg. I'm not knocking the merits of the RF mount or how good the new glass might be nor your decision to make the leap. More power to ya. All I'm saying is watch out for the spin.

Calm down, Wilson. No need to get personal. I said nothing about weight. Not sure what it has to do with threshold for pain. The R with the RF 70-200 fits in my bag mounted with the flap closed. That’s the main thing I meant. And I said nothing about the quality of one vs the other. They are both excellent quality. The RF version does have an MFD of .7m vs 1.2 for the EF version. Personally I think that is one of the larger differences from a functional standpoint. I prefer the location of the zoom ring on the EF version also.

I don’t even know what your second paragraph means, honestly. I’ve used all kinds of EF glass and loved it. I fought selling it pretty hard and was going to go all EF glass. Then the adapter got too frustrating and I sold everything and went full RF. Nothing against the EF glass. If the FF Mirrorless used EF glass I’d be just as happy.

We good?

The 5DS and 5dSR are 50 meg FF EF mount DSLRs meant for huge 50meg+ captures with unbelievable detail. That was Canon's spin on them anyway.

The spin on this is how much better the RF mount and the RF glass is than the EF family. My only point there is that, at least so far, there is absolutely no real world proof that either of those statements are true, because there simply isn't an RF mount camera out there yet to prove it.

Took the R out tonight for a little night sky photography. Very nice for adjusting focus and setting exposure. Two images, 1st is just a crop of the 2nd, of "The Pleiades also called "The Seven Sisters" and "Messier 45" are a star cluster quite visible with the naked eye in the eastern sky from here on the Manitoulin Island.

I know there have been questions about charging the EOS R from a power bank - I have certainly had a hard time finding useful info about it. I recently bought a power bank and thought I would share my results.

I bought a RavPower 18W 10,000mAh PD power bank from Amazon for about $25. I also added a basic USB-C 3.1 cable for about $5, since the power bank doesn't come with one. Here's a link to the power bank I am using: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N3RGNY6/ (external link)

I plugged my EOS R in to the power bank, and immediately got the charging light on the back of the camera. My EOS R was at 75% when I plugged it in, and was at 100% when I checked on it about an hour later.

I also tried a $30 Amazon Basics wall charger with a USB-C PD port (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PBCLM6X/ (external link)). This also worked fine. I charged a battery from 40% to full in about 2 hours.

As always YMMV, but from what I can see, there is no need to buy the ridiculous $190 Canon-branded charger. There are perfectly good $25-$30 options out there to charge your EOS R in camera.

I am also going to post this info on an EF-M thread, because the same tools work perfectly on my new M6 Mark ii.

It just has to have PD (power delivery/Force charge in other words.). That's the catch. I have a very nice Anker and it works fine too.

One more from the Canon FD 300mm 4.0 I shared recently. I think this was taken at f/5.6

I decided I was not happy with my R's performance so I decided to take it to Japan for serving. Samurai museum in Tokyo. The moustache is a little off but this is an original. They put them on to intimate. We did find Godzilla.
