Opportunity to buy a second R body for $1299, yes or no? Current sale price of $1499 and “special” targeted discount of another $200 discount at BHPhoto.

I know I want a second body, but am wondering if better to wait for the “pro” R. Decisions, decisions....

I'd wait and see.

It depends on how much you think you'd use it. I held out for almost a year before buying the R and I regret not getting it sooner. You can always sell it when a new one comes out. Yes, you will probably not get what you paid for it, but chalk it up to usage/rental cost.

I also think the new pro R model will be significantly more expensive than the current R.

I see no reason to wait, but that's just my opinion.

I'm going to wait as well.

Me too but the AF was not as good until FW 1.3 and 4 releases. I may have been disappointed. We will see what the pro body costs. Hopefully the next prosumer addresses EVF lag and adds some FPS. Then again improved lag may not work as well with non FR lenses. I didn't see a lot of difference with my RF 24-105 enabling High Speed Display but I'll try it again. There are a lot of expensive big whites out there with EF mounts.

That would be all I need. I'd take any other improvements.

Seeing all these deals for the R is a bit of a shock, almost as if they are trying to fire sale them? I know the 5dmkiv has seen a pretty nice price drop, but it doesn't seem as severe as the R and it's been out longer.

Maybe Canon is just trying to push sales to sell their high end glass.

Maybe I'm just noticing a bit more since I paid full price for mine less than a year ago

Whole industry is hurting because of mobile phones. I'm also pretty sure they want to sell more RF lenses. Rumours a high end R will be released in the spring.
