Either way it seems almost too good to be true. I'm sure something will always be better on the horizon but for most people this is enough camera. I'm still using a 5d2 that I'm happy with.

I also believe they lowered the price to get people buying into R glass. Speaking of which I really hope they decide to make some smaller primes.

There are also two bodies around the corner Canon EOS Rs and EOS R MKII..

Whole industry is hurting because of mobile phones. I'm also pretty sure they want to sell more RF lenses. Rumours a high end R will be released in the spring.

After trying both the new cropper 90D and the EOS-R (I kept the R), I am no longer interested in the rumored high resolution EOS-R. Surely there is room for a resolution bump up from 30,3 mp, but if they scale the 32,5 1.6x crop sensor to FF, it is way beyond what I would be comfortable with. For crop sensors, 1,5-1.6x, my ideal resolution is 20mp, for FF my ideal resolution would be around 40-45mp. Anything higher, and I am out. So the EOS-RmkII (that will no doubt share its sensor with the coming 5DmkV), is what I will be looking out for.
On the EOS-RmkII coming so soon (rumored and more or less confirmed by the sale on the EOS-R): it will most likely be a tandem release of the 5DV and the EOS-RmkII, just as with the 90D and M6mkII. They will very likely share the same (new) sensor and the same processor.

Those good prices are getting this Sony shooter to pick up an R + 24-105 to see what the fuss is about. I look forward to comparing the two systems, the long term lens ecosystem to invest in definitely appears to be Canon over Sony.

I have an R and a brand new a6600 in the arsenal that I just bought yesterday. Picked up an M6 Mk II with an EF adapter from B&H too just for S&G, but that's another thread. :D

Been using an a6000 and a6300 for years, and had 4-5 of the NEXs before that. I can tell you for certain that you'll love the R. If for no other reason, the menus (They actually make sense.) and the touchscreen operations. The two things least talked about on the Sonys and the two things that need fixing the worst, IMO.

I had an A6000 for several years and I enjoyed it and the IQ but the menus were tough and there were no long lenses for it, compared to Canon. I used it mostly for travel where I wasn't doing long lens stuff (wildlife). I sold the whole kit earlier this year. Now I have a new R and am just getting acquainted with it. Time shortage is making it difficult. But so far at least it works well with my EF lenses and I like the size and ergonomics mostly. Time will tell but I still have my DSLR's. For how long, I don't know, I will probably thin the herd of lenses and bodies now since there is so much overlap going on.

I’m very happy with the R, any shortcomings it has are covered by my Panny G9 MFT.

If the next R is in the 1DX price range I won’t be getting one. While I wouldn’t mind a resolution bump, I am happy with 30mp.

What would be nice though is to dual wield so I don’t have to swap lenses. While we were in Hawaii on vacation this year my wife asked why I didn’t just have two cameras after watching me swap lenses back and forth so frequently.

I have dived in to RF lenses with the RF 15-35mm, RF 28-70mm, RF 35mm, RF 24-240mm and I expect I will move from my EF 70-200mm 2.8L II to the RF 70-200mm 2.8L next year, so it would be nice to rock two identical bodies.

Extra $200 discount is only good til 12/18 so I got a couple days to think about it.

I really need to suck it up and buy an EF adapter for my Sony APS-Cs. Just curious which one you're using and how happy you are with it. Don't want to get off on too much of a tangent on an R thread, but it's indirectly related. A little. I guess. In a stretch. :D Love to hear your brief thoughts. So much EF glass here and I've just never done it. I shoot almost exclusively video on the Sony's and have the PZ 18-105 and the PZ 18-200 (that goes with my NEX30, STILL the greatest camcorder of all time) and a few oddball APSC native Sony Lenses.

No FF Sony lenses, hence the reason I never committed to the A7 III. With that sale that's going on now (1999 with the 24-70), I almost pulled the trigger when I bought the a6600. I backed off because I'm not getting rid of the Canon and I'm certainly not going to invest in a whole 'nother set of FF glass on a different eco-system.

The worst thing about that sale is that it's really decreasing the resale value of us R users that will want to buy into the Mk II when it comes out. I guess we knew it was coming and part of the cost of doing business, but it still hurts.

30 megs is fine with me. I gotta be honest, if it wasn't for the 4k crop and possibly 60p in 4k, I could be happy with the R for a very long time. Actually, I have all that except 60p in my Sonys anyway, and in the M6 Mk II. OK. Now I'm thinking out loud and I'm not liking what I'm hearing.

Gotta find a cure for my GAS. Anybody wanna buy a Mk III, a 6D or an 80D? :D :D :D

Well I actually have an A7R3 so the R is objectively a step back in nearly every aspect. However, I have a big non-photography purchase I want to make, so migrating to Canon will free up funds. If the Canon is simply “good enough” that will suffice until I upgrade to the Mark II in 2021.

I have also long considered whether Sony 7iii or Canon R. But when you look closely, many things are better with Canon. Sealed body, better touch display, I don't have to take extra money for the adapter, I can use the batteries of my 5dmk3, the menus are tidier and the ergonomics are better ...and canon colors... ߘ

The two new bodies is really interesting... I'm not too interested in the high MP model but hoping that the Mark II will come with a serious bump up on FPS. I do a lot of sports photography would love at least a double FPS in the new body.

Then I'll chuck the 70-200mm on my current EOS R for close up work and put the 200-400mm on the *new* body. I've tried doing a similar setup with my 5D and R but it tends to throw me off going from mirror to mirrorless in a split second and I generally miss the shot.

{TIC} You guys have simply got to stop using EF glass on the R. It's simply not good enough for the new technology. Either buy R lenses that cost 3x as much or sell your Rs. That is all.
