Dec 13, 2019 11:59 | #6512 Either way it seems almost too good to be true. I'm sure something will always be better on the horizon but for most people this is enough camera. I'm still using a 5d2 that I'm happy with. Website

Rumours a high end R will be released in the spring. After trying both the new cropper 90D and the EOS-R (I kept the R), I am no longer interested in the rumored high resolution EOS-R. Surely there is room for a resolution bump up from 30,3 mp, but if they scale the 32,5 1.6x crop sensor to FF, it is way beyond what I would be comfortable with. For crop sensors, 1,5-1.6x, my ideal resolution is 20mp, for FF my ideal resolution would be around 40-45mp. Anything higher, and I am out. So the EOS-RmkII (that will no doubt share its sensor with the coming 5DmkV), is what I will be looking out for.

I look forward to comparing the two systems, the long term lens ecosystem to invest in definitely appears to be Canon over Sony.

I have an R and a brand new a6600 in the arsenal that I just bought yesterday. Picked up an M6 Mk II with an EF adapter from B&H too just for S&G, but that's another thread.

I can tell you for certain that you'll love the R. If for no other reason, the menus (They actually make sense.) and the touchscreen operations. The two things least talked about on the Sonys and the two things that need fixing the worst, IMO. I had an A6000 for several years and I enjoyed it and the IQ but the menus were tough and there were no long lenses for it, compared to Canon. I used it mostly for travel where I wasn't doing long lens stuff (wildlife). I sold the whole kit earlier this year. Now I have a new R and am just getting acquainted with it. Time shortage is making it difficult. But so far at least it works well with my EF lenses and I like the size and ergonomics mostly. Time will tell but I still have my DSLR's. For how long, I don't know, I will probably thin the herd of lenses and bodies now since there is so much overlap going on. Ed

WilsonFlyer Goldmember More info Post edited over 3 years ago by WilsonFlyer. | I really need to suck it up and buy an EF adapter for my Sony APS-Cs. Just curious which one you're using and how happy you are with it. Don't want to get off on too much of a tangent on an R thread, but it's indirectly related. A little. I guess. In a stretch.

The worst thing about that sale is that it's really decreasing the resale value of us R users that will want to buy into the Mk II when it comes out. I guess we knew it was coming and part of the cost of doing business, but it still hurts.

However, I have a big non-photography purchase I want to make, so migrating to Canon will free up funds. If the Canon is simply “good enough” that will suffice until I upgrade to the Mark II in 2021. But when you look closely, many things are better with Canon. Sealed body, better touch display, I don't have to take extra money for the adapter, I can use the batteries of my 5dmk3, the menus are tidier and the ergonomics are better ...and canon colors... ߘ http://500px.com/StephanKlinkmller

Dec 14, 2019 05:24 | #6523 The two new bodies is really interesting... I'm not too interested in the high MP model but hoping that the Mark II will come with a serious bump up on FPS. I do a lot of sports photography would love at least a double FPS in the new body.

Dec 14, 2019 10:27 | #6525 {TIC} You guys have simply got to stop using EF glass on the R. It's simply not good enough for the new technology. Either buy R lenses that cost 3x as much or sell your Rs. That is all.
