I have not noticed anything like that.

Thanks for your reply.
After some more testing, I have noticed the following: the 400DOII is immaculate on both the 7DII and the Sony A7RII, completely stable viewfinder image in IS mode 1. In my opinion this rules out the lens as the source of the problem.

On the EOS-R, I get the same "shakes"or jolts in the viewfinder image in IS mode 1, except when I switch the lens IS to mode 3 before turning the camera on, and then, áfter turning on the EOS-R, switch the IS on the lens to mode 1. It will function perfectly until I switch off the camera and switch it back on with the lens IS in mode 1, then the jumping viewfinder is back. I wonder if it is a firmware issue or an electrical defect, because I cannot imagine a compatibility issue. It however makes the EOS-R pretty useless for me with the 400DOII, because the jumping IS makes it very hard to accurately auto focus, and switching the lens IS from mode 3 to 1 every time when powering up the camera is not very practical.
First time I have ever had a defect on a camera or lens. -?

So,. now I need to consider that 24-240mm RF lens,. that and the little 35mm seem the ones to get in RF. Oi...

Stupid newb question, if I mount an EF-S to the adapter does the R do a "Crop mode" like some other modern FF mirrorless,. or is is just a big dark ring in the shots.
(at work so I can't try it out)

Both are great lenses. I sold my kit Rf 24-105mm as I decided I wanted the range of the 24-240mm and was planning on getting the RF 28-70mm f/2 as well so it was total overlap.

Mount a Canon EF-s and it automatically switches to “crop mode”. Mount a non Canon crop lens (Tamron/Sigma) and you get the heavy vignette unless you manually switch to “crop mode”

there was a deal you can get the EOS-r + adapter + sd card + 24-240 for 1800 pre tax through the loyalty program..... or for 100 more, the 24-105 (the route I took).

I'm thinking about the same thing. I'm certain I want the 35 for the small size and macro ability. I love using my 24L on my 7DII. I never really wanted a super zoom in the past but 24-240 can be nice and these 2 together would make a great travel/hiking combo.

I've used my 10-22 lens on the R and you get a regular image, but resolution is reduced. Don't have a photo handy, but I think the resolution was roughly 4000 by whatever the second number would be for a 3 by 2 photo, versus 6700 by 4400 for a photo with the full frame lens.

Just take your time and load up on fiber, Metamucil may help along with a nice prune danish. When you're as old as dirt, things take time. You got this.

The R’s AF is far better with my 400 DOII and 2x than my 5D4 was and my 7D2 is.

I purposely just tried the R with the DO II with and without the 2x III. I turned off the IS put it back on etc. I could not produce any jumping in the EVF. For the heck of it, I tried it with the 200-400, 70-200mm III and as you know I use the 400mm f2.8 without issue. It may be possible something is going on with the R. I am not sure but maybe try a different adaptor. You could have a bad adapter too (not sure if they have any variation). I used the adaptor with the control ring and without.

I do have almost anything extra turned off that I do not use in the camera including some things that are on by default. Maybe something is interfering with it. Worth a shot turning things off and trying different combos.

Just as an example maybe like anti flicker is messing with you, depending on the shutter speed. I believe you can't use silent mode with that enabled. Odd for sure. easiest try is a new adapter.

The adapter may just be where to look first. I will try to get another one tomorrow!

Or simply dirty contacts somewhere. Lots going on in these adapters, lenses and camera mounts. Lots of points of potential failure.

Crop mode! Which means I can use it with my favorite EFS 18-135mm :)

That's mighty handy and flexible to have a body that can do extreme low light and wide angle @ full frame, and then be a jack of all trades with an affordable EF-S :)
Good, gives me more time to NOT spend $ on that 24-240mm :) (though I realize an EF-S in crop mode is no comparison)
