Tommi, did you get the Control Ring adapter? That's what I use for EC, works pretty well.

Yeah, the Drag & Touch AF is so much better than the joystick, but only problem is if you're using the camera w/ gloves on. I haven't used it outside in the cold yet, so not sure how I'd work around it. Once they get the joystick + touch AF implemented in a future release, we'll be covered.

The RF 35 f/1.8 is a sweet lens, very versatile. Sharp across the frame too.

EF 50 f/1.2L is reborn on the EOS R. No more focus shift!

Weirdness and a possibly stupid question. Just got the RF 70-200... so decided tonight to take her out for a test. So I get to where I’m gonna shoot. I’ve been shooting in the newish. FV mode,... usually use it in the aperture mode... put the camera to my eye... view finder is totally white... I can see all the icons and such ... but it’s pure white...

Had you been actively using the camera or had just turned it on or by chance did you have it on, but hadn’t done anything for a bit?

I’ve had a few scares where my viewfinder or screen will be totally blown out, as if over exposed and not adjusting. Usually happens when the camera has been on, but timed out/slept. Put to eye and it wakes up but is way over exposed. Sometimes only way to get it corrected is to turn it off and back on.

I keep EXP Sim “On” not sure if it has anything to do with the hiccup or not.

I have the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R that came with the package deal. I'm just using the default dial for EC.

With the 50L, I liked it on my 5d/7d bodies but it's worlds better on the R. I'm getting tack sharp shots at 1.2. I think this is the most exiting part of the camera, I really didn't expect this.

I'm looking forward to the 35, seems like the perfect lens for this size body.

setup your touchpad, much better than the joystick IMO.

use a different initial point set for servo and skip the joystick, just focus/track/recompose.

Using the LCD is definitely far better than the joystick. Not so much for lefties based on a few posts I have read. I also set the AF point/Index/Magnify/Reduce button to put the AF point/s back to centre.

I did set you the arrow keys for colder weather.

Yes no MFA. I never liked and will never like it. Some like TeamSpeed have it down to a science. I never trusted my results so I used FoCal. I may never have to again. I didn't like the ring adapter. Too awkward for telephoto lenses so I exchanged it for the basic one. I got a second one so now they live on my most used two EF lenses. Between my only RF lens it works out good or me.

For new owners if anyone is interested. I posted my set up after getting it. I haven't made any changes. The multitask bad is pretty sensitive so I lock it. I tried to set it up so it auto locks but I found it kinda finicky so I went back to locking it.

Exposure comp was dead center... I thought... only thing I can think of after thinking about it today... I actually have the exposure comp set to the dial ring on the lens... I had just left the tripod ring on the 70-200 first time taking it out . My hand kept going behind the tripod collar to hold the lens while shooting.... that ring is on the back of this lens... I very well might have hit that ring and over compensated the exposure... I have taken the collar off.. this lens is small enough not to have it on there. ... I absolutely love the lens so far. Much smaller and lighter than the version 3

The camera had been off ... only thing I did was the night before when I got the lens , I did the latest firm ware update .. then turned it off. Was in my bag until the next night when I took it out to shoot.

RF 70-200... wowow. It's as though they combined the best parts of the 100-400 II with the 70-200 f/2.8 III. They feel very similar in hand in terms of construction and design elements, and the short size plus reduced weight is just awesome. One of the best parts is the super close MFD, making this lens insanely useful for all around use. I took some torture test shots of my white/black dog in front of a blown out window, and there's no fringing on the high contrast areas in any of the photos. Details are tack sharp. Really, this thing is a huge win for Canon.

Thing I don't like: the worthless window in the lens hood. There goes Canon with the cripple hammer again, guess they had to gimp this thing somehow to leave room for a Mark II :p

Yes, mine suffers from the MFD focus shift @ 200mm, but a fix is imminent from Canon, so it bothers me not.

Todd, it seems like that would be the best bet. At least there you will have access to more type 2 cards and more EOS Rs for testing.

I arrived in the city today and was able to get to a camera store. They tried my card in their EOS R and it wouldn't work. They had a Lexar card of their own there and it worked fine in my EOS R. They also had a sony UHS-II card and it worked fine as well. So it seems I have a problem card. Thankfully!

Thanks everyone for the helpful input.

Good. At least you can live with that answer. It certainly could have been worse.

...Faster way to get into video modes?...Or a way to disable AF area modes not using would help.

What could be faster than just pressing the dedicated video button? It defaults (and can't be changed, afaik, to video C3. Just set up C3 for your most-used video specs. When you stop recording, you're back in stills mode. I set up the multi-function (when in video mode) to “Switch to Custom Shooting Mode”- One button press lets you cycle through C1,2,3. If you're shooting 23.98, one press could be for slo-mo, for example.
In the Menu you can select whatever AF area modes you want, and disable the others.
