The R fits my landscape and concert needs nicely. No plans to upgrade.

Likewise. That landscape part that is, it's great for that. The IBIS would be nice, but nowhere near enough to get me to upgrade.

I've just come back from a camping trip in Karijini, Western Australia. It's a spectacular place with lots of photo opportunities. Unfortunately, having the family in tow severely limits those opportunities for me lol. I must return sometime without them...

I was happy with our camping spot next to this tree. I'm a bit out of practice with my astro shots and stuffed up the foreground shot so silhouette it is!

Here's another from Karijini. I really wanted to re-shoot this to do the foreground properly but never got around to it.

This is a blend of about 8 frames with different elements lit in each one. It was tricky to get light onto the far side of the gorge and getting definition without casting shadows from trees and rocks (or falling over the cliff lol) I can't say I didn't enjoy it though :-)

The glow is most likely from a distant iron ore mine.

I noticed that after I change the lens on my R, the next start of the camera takes very long, about 2 seconds. After that, if I keep the same lens and just turn off and on the camera, it takes shorter time to start, about 1 second. I guess the camera is trying to get communicate with the lens whenever it's newly put on? How can I speed that up?

I don't think that I saw it posted previously, but there are firmware updates for the EOS R and RF lenses. The lens updates add compatibility for the EOS R5 and R6 cameras for the lens IS to work with IBIS. The 1.7.0 firmware for the R adds the following items.

Support has been added for the following lenses:
Canon RF 600mm f/11 IS STM
Canon RF 800mm f/11 IS STM
Canon EXTENDER RF 1.4×
Canon EXTENDER RF 2×

The operation of playing back through the multi-function bar has been improved *
* please refer to the latest version of the camera’s Instruction Manual that is released with the firmware update.

Support for the Battery Pack LP-E6NH has been added.
