The little guy who lives in the battery box of my sawmill catching some sun this afternoon.
You can tell by his eyes that he’s about to molt, or shed his skin.

Came across this native, wild Bearded Dragon sunning itself in our local Toohey Forest.

The reptile didn't seem to mind me as I grabbed the safety shot and then crab-walked/crawled around it to get a different angle.:-)

Taken with Canon EOS R6, and yes, Animal Eye Detect AF works on dragons.;-)a

Cheers

Dennis

Beautiful creatures. You certainly captured that nicely.
Fascinating to watch them.
Very nice indeed.

I hadn't been aware that goannas had nictitating membranes, like birds. This is a water monitor, Varanus mertensi, at Walangurrmin (lower Finniss River crossing), south-west of Darwin on Sunday. The first shows the membrane, which was only visible in one frame of a burst. The other frames all showed an uncovered eye.

Great shot Mr Man. Did you have to poke at it with a stick to get it to stand up like that? Seeing this reminds me of when I was a teen back in the sixties. My friend's dad had the chainsaw shop in our little town with logging as the main industry back then. One Saturday a logger brought a dead 6' Timber Rattler in, and the Dad called us to come up to see it. Everybody was wigging out over that. Afterwards it was brought home, then later thrown out into the mid shin high grass between our houses. When Mom called me for supper, I lit out for home. We were bare-footed all Summer back then. If there had been a car just past where my foot landed squarely in the middle of it's back, I would have easily cleared it. Of course by the time I was at the apex of my jump I realized it was probably the dead rattler, but adrenaline became a reality that before I had only heard about at my young age. ;-)a
