Both males and females use these projections when battling to hook under the edge of the shell and flip their opponents over.

I was hoping to find a video on youtube showing how the above worked but sadly did not find any. But that was cool to learn this!!

Woah! The attacking turtle was very pleased with himself wasn't he! It would have been interesting to see what the attacker did with the turned over turtle in the end.

Once a turtle is turned upside down he/she cannot right themselves can they?

I get the creeps just being in here but attached is my contribution from South FLA.

From what I gather, the males turn orange during mating season.
