I understand photos must be <1600 per side and <2.5 MB, that we are allowed 2 photos per post if hosted by the forum and 8 if hosted elsewhere, and that oversized photos will be resized by the forum. However, I can't find an answer to my issue of photos sometimes showing up smaller than I expect them to be. This doesn't always happen. For example, this one seems to be showing up fine (larger) in the WTB forum under 15mm fisheye, but in this post it is smaller:

IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2bXmVWK (external link) Fisheye 7 (external link) by ozziepuppy (external link), on Flickr

Now I would think that was perhaps due to the WTB photo being the first (only) posting of that photo, and this post being the second (when it should technically be in the gallery), except that the following two photos were both small the very first time I posted them, and the one with the butterfly actually IS in the gallery. Yet each is showing up smaller than I would expect, both in the Photo Association thread as well as again in this post:

Q 1: What can I do to ensure photos are consistently larger in posts?

Q 2: My other question is why the camera and the settings show up on top of some photos but not on others. In the SL2 owners unite thread, the photo with the butterfly (above) has a header showing the camera and settings but in this post it does not. It isn't because it is in the gallery, because the photo of the dragon in the same post is not in the gallery, but does include the camera and settings header.

Edit: Q3: Also, some have the option to Edit Metadata and some do not--why is this?
Edit: Q4: And why do some photos have the option to add to your gallery and some don't?

Thanks.

Q 1: What can I do to ensure photos are consistently larger in posts?

Reason your images show small is the BBCODE block you got from Flickr. Remedy to that is:

Use the "EMBED IMAGE" field in our post editor: paste the gallery PAGE address there (like https://www.flickr.com …/katlover_ks/45295717121/ (external link) ) and press FETCH. You get a thumbnail which you can then click to insert that image to post. It builds BBCODE required with largest available image size from your gallery for that photo.

Q 2: My other question is why the camera and the settings show up on top of some photos but not on others.

Camera settings are retrieved after you submit the post. Flickr has removed EXIF from their resized images, so we get the data from gallery page for the image, like https://www.flickr.com …/katlover_ks/45295717121/ (external link) -- you can see that there is no camera data (EXIF) there. So if camera data is automatically added or not depends on the image posted. It has to be either in image EXIF or in case of Flickr on the gallery page.

Edit: Q3: Also, some have the option to Edit Metadata and some do not--why is this?

If image is under a certain size (i.e. quite small), then the metadata editor is not available.

Edit: Q4: And why do some photos have the option to add to your gallery and some don't?

Thanks.

You may add to gallery only when the metadata contains both camera AND lens. For compact cameras fixed lens is added automatically, for those with removable lens it is added from automatic EXIF retrieval. If lens is or camera is not in our database, use something similar and edit it later if needed.

You can freely edit metadata of your images at any time, and it gets much quicker if you add the most used lenses and cameras to your gear list: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/personalgear.php
