I'm looking for an external flash for my 5dmark ii. What do you recommend? I'm currently looking at the 580 ex ii but it's been replaced with the 600. I'd highly appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks and hope all is well.

580EXII would serve as a single on camera flash just as well as a 600. For that matter, the 580EX would work fine too. The 480 packs a good punch as a smaller, still very capable unit.

There are some new Godox flashes that are great deals, but there are some compatibility issues with older cameras that might come into play. I'm not nearly knowledgeable enough to get into it but it seems like buying the same period stuff often works out best.

I shoot a 5DmkII. A used 580EXII is probably a great choice if you mainly plan on using the flash on-camera. If you plan to use it off-camera, I'd say a Godox TT685-C (external link). Mine is similar enough to the 580EXII to be a good backup unit, and it's compatible with the 5DMkII. Just doesn't do the external sensor stuff the 580EXII can do, but works great as a "smart" optical slave/master to the 580EXII.

I'm a woman. I shoot with a Fuji X100T, Panasonic GX-7, Canon 5DmkII, and 50D. flickr stream (external link)
