Okay, I went last year with two Canon camera bodies, a 7D2 and 5D4. For lenses, I had a Canon 100-400 v2, 70-200 f2.8 IS II, and a 24-70. And a 1.4 teleconverter. Had a blast. Going back again this year with a better tripod and gimbal. Don't really need the gimbal for the 100-400, but it has some use.

Anyway, I'm considering renting a Canon 600mm. Last year there were some eagle shots I just couldn't get with the 100-400 and TC combo. And yes, it is a lot of money for probably 5% of the shots I'll be taking. But I thought I'd toss this idea out for discussion. I could rent a Sigma 150-600 for significantly less. In fact, one of the other guys will have one along that I could probably borrow for a few shots.

edit. Got a text and lost my train of thought.

Please throw out ideas and thoughts.

thanks.

I am surprised you have no responses to this post. I am not an expert, I have been to Bosque once, four years ago. I took two cameras, one with a 400DO plus a 1.4 X and the other with a 70-200. I felt well equipped. I think a 600 would be perfect for the Flight Deck and the Crane Pools, if you can handle the size and weight. Too much for me, an old geezer. Good birding, that place is pure magic.

Thanks, I'm surprised too. You are exactly right about where I'd use it. Since those are close to the car and I'd have a tripod for it that seems perfect. Last year my 100-400mm with a 1.4x was pretty good except for some long eagle perched shots.
