I don't have a high speed internet or cable tv plan. It's time to move up in the world. ;-)a

So I'm looking for a provider. As I see it, I have to choices:

High speed internet + cable tv programs. Such as Direct TV or similar.

Or...

High speed internet only. I could get tv/movie content via Netflex, Hulu, or amazon prime.
(as some say, cut the cable).

After doing some internet shopping, I see the first choice can get expensive.
The 2 big players in my area (SoCal) are ATT & Spectrum.

ATT has a plan I'm interested in: Internet only, high speed DSL with download speeds up to 75 Mbps. 1TB data limit. $50/month
for first year, and free modem. Of course after one year the price may double.

So much to think about.
Who is your provider and are you satisified? I would be interested in how much you pay per month. If you don't want to say, I understand.

Sonic.net. This small regional provider is so much better than ATT. Very satisfied. We pay about $67 a month for Fusion service: landline plus Internet. No cable. I don't think they serve an area as far south as you, but others in Northern California might be interested.

I'm very pleased with Sonic also. And their tech support is first class.

Well, Perfectly Frank, we have the solution for you. Move to this part of the state and sign up with Sonic.

Lots of free stuff on the net also, TubiTV, Filmrise, Yahoo View and Crackle have add supported content that is free. I have a local WISP, it only works well at night when people without back problems are probably sleeping. Part of my small town has already been getting Gigabit Fiber at $60 a month from Race Communications, I should have it available sometime in the next 12 months or so.

I just checked and Sonic serves my area. Sonic says their internet is delivered over Att's network.

They offer 2 choices for me: internet + phone, and internet + phone + Dish tv.

First choice is $70 month after intro price. 75 Mbps and no data caps.
But I don't want the phone, we all use smartphones.

Thanks for the tip, will look into it more.

Yes, they transmit over ATT's phone lines. Their offering is perfect for us. We need a landline for the home security system.

I pay $30/month for 100 Mbs from Spectrum (and have for several years with no increase).

I get tv/movies via streaming with Kodi or similar applications (use a VPN).

And here is my caveat our HOA includes basic cable in the dues so we have cable at the boat docks, cabanas, home, garage etc - I do not know what portion of that goes to Spectrum or if not having it would make a difference.

BT Fibre. It is about £30 pcm.

Probably no good to you as information as I'm guessing you are in USA! Maybe you should have highlighted that on your title as this is an international forum.

If available in your area you might want to check out Cox. Here in AZ we are getting excellent performance and even their customer service is okay.

I spent some years in the network industry and never ever recommend DSL except for basic connectivity. If you are going to cut the cable and be happy you likely want your network to run on fiber or cable, not legacy phone lines. You might be one of the lucky ones to be happy with DSL, but most are not.

Comcast Xfinity... I'm never happy. It's fast since it's cable but it's not cheap.

This is what I do (no cable or Dish or anything like that).

Pay TV is ridiculously expensive. . I honestly can't believe that so many millions of people can afford to pay so much per month just to watch something on the tube from time to time.

In addition to internet access, I pay for Netflix and the NFL Game Pass. . Netflix is, like, $10 or $12 a month. . And Game Pass is $100 per year. . So for less than $250 a year I get all the content I need. . Compare that to cable or Dish or Direct TV or whatever at $60 to $100 per month. . PER MONTH! . Sheesh! . Are people crazy?

I use NCI Datacom for my internet. . They are the locally owned company here in my little corner of rural Washington. . John and Becki own the company. . I get fast speed internet for $45 a month, but because I pay quarterly instead of monthly they give me a discount, so it ends up being $120 per three months. . The service is wonderful. . There are almost never any outages, and when there are they get fixed within 10 minutes or so. . Service only goes out on me once every two or three months, and like I said it gets back up and running within a few minutes. . Never an issue.

This guy Bill that lives in my town also owns an internet provision company. . However, he charges, like, ten dollars more per month, and the service gets interrupted and goes out much more frequently because of trouble with the towers he uses. . If it goes out and you call him on his cell, you get him out the same day - often within an hour or three. . But it does go out a lot and it really isn't worth the inconvenience, especially with it costing more than NCI.

When you get service through a tiny little local company that is owned by everyday people (not a corporation), you get much better service because they really care about each and every customer being satisfied. . If they were to lose five or ten customers to the competition, they would really feel it and it would have an adverse effect on their business and their lives. . Big corporations couldn't care less about every single individual account - they think in terms of big numbers and they make their policies accordingly.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I have ATT Fiber (not Uverse, but actual fiber). 1gb up/ 1gb down. It's been amazing and in the year and a half that I've had it. The only outage I've had was as a result of a massive power failure in the area. Otherwise, it's been consistent and amazing.

Bodies: 7D Mark II, 5DS
Lenses: Tamron 70-200 f/2.8, Canon Nifty-Fifty, Canon 40mm, few others
Other Gear: grips, batteries, LowPro backpack, various tripods and monopods, far too many CF's to list.
