Yes it was wandering towards the pines, which seems odd as that is the larval food plant and egg laying location. The larvae feed on Scots pine, Swiss pine, Siberian pine and Norway spruce. The females lay their eggs in groups of 2 or 3 along pine or spruce needles. I guess they hibernate as Pupae in the ground. It was a very marshy area so it may have lowered itself to the ground and started heading to dryer ground. Gear List
