How on earth is the extended grip for the EOS R, the BG-E22, a full $200 more than the grip for the 5D4, the BG-E20?!? They both hold the same exact batteries.

Market size? Economy of scale I suspect.

The 5D4 grip was priced similarly when it was first released.

Apparently the new grip has a PC socket for triggering strobes, and you can also power it via USB-C. I've only confirmed that you can charge batteries in the grip via USB-C.

Not even close from what I recall. The 5D4 grip launched at around $350 max if memory serves, but this new grip is $490!

Also, dang that new grip for the R is fugly, sticking out the side of the camera like that.

Yeouch.

I don't ever recall it selling for that much at any stores when the camera came out, but perhaps my memory is shot.

It was probably that much for the early adopters but quickly fell to a more reasonable price much like the cameras themselves. If I remember when the 5DIV came out it was somewhere about 4k but within weeks fell a few hundred and within 6 months you could find deals saving a lot more then a few hundred.

There's been griping over the steady price increases for the grip every generation at least in the 5D series.

In any case, this new grip is still ugly!
