When owned by yahoo as a free subscription you had 1TB, now owned by Smugmug it's now limiting to only 1000 images, anything over 1K will be deleted

Annual fee for Pro now is $50 get 30% off first year.

*Free members with more than 1,000 photos or videos uploaded to Flickr have until Tuesday, January 8, 2019, to upgrade to Pro or download content over the limit. After January 8, 2019, members over the limit will no longer be able to upload new photos to Flickr. After February 5, 2019, free accounts that contain over 1,000 photos or videos will have content actively deleted -- starting from oldest to newest date uploaded -- to meet the new limit.

I posted on the thread in General Photography about this, but they upped the amount they charged me for the current quarter by 159%, up from $6.95 to $17.97! That is actually $71.88 PA, not $49. I got absolutely no notice of this change in price before they implemented it. It only came out on 20 Oct so not even seen it on a statement yet. I know I don't ever check the Yahoo email account I had to set up when they bought Flickr, but there is messaging within the platform so informing me of the change in the billing amount shouldn't be difficult.

Given this unwelcome move on the new owners part I shall be cancelling my account. I simply use Flickr as a place where I host images, I use none of the social media functions of the platform. So I might as well find a free web host service, and just use that to host my images and link them that way.

You had to have a yahoo email address to open an account, but not since Smugmug took over
Alan if you go into settings you can change your primary email to one you use regularly, so you get there notices there.

You get to setting by clicking on your avatar on the top right corner. Its to the right of the bell

I would also contact them, and ask to get a refund, since they are running the special. Plead your case, it dosen't hurt to try !!

You can also down load all your images from Flickr/Smugmug, and keep it under the cap of 1000 images for a free account to host your images
You do that the same way by going to settings.

You guys can blame me for Flickr going down the drain.

Recommended to me by others to join Flickr, I created an account and got signed up just a few weeks before the change-over.

I got busy with other things and I have not yet posted a single image to my new Flickr account --- not a single one.

I had hoped it would be a good free place where I could post the 300-400 images I normally take at antique tractor shows, wagon and trail rides, and the like; it wouldn't take me more than a week to exceed the 1,000 image free limit.

I just wanted something better than the soccer-mom way that FaceBook does things for all those people who keep begging me to join FaceBook to have a better way to see my pictures.

Like anything else I get involved in that seems like a good thing, as soon as I begin to get involved, the bottom falls out.

If you have a favorite restaurant, don't tell me about it; if I see that I like it and can afford it, the place will catch fire and burn to the ground.

If I stumble into an almost decent paying job that I kinda like, they will sell out or go bankrupt or get audited by the DOT and shutdown.

I could go on and on.

Hahaha, I know what you mean!

I only learned of the changes this morning, my first thought was what happens to all the posts I have on POTN that have the shots hosted on Flickr? If many others do the same, it could end up with a site full of redundant links. (Mods any thoughts on this?)

Personally, I think I will give it a go for the discounted year (-30% if you pay by end Nov) & see if Smugmug do anything to make the payment worth while.

What other alternatives are there?
Do you use Flickr just for storage?

I have just received my first e-mail notice from the new Flickr; a very long-winded brain-washing affair telling me how wonderful I was and how much better my life was going to be now that I am being offered the privilege to pay for what had been free for years.

Nowhere in that lengthy message was any mention of just what this new deal is going to cost; I did see it mentioned that I was eligible for a 30% discount for my first year, but no clue as to what I should deduct this 30% from.

To sweeten the pot, it said that I could save 50% off that popular inflated overpriced cloud editor deal that I wouldn't touch even if it were free.

One silver lining to this murky cloud, as I have not yet loaded any images into my new Flickr account, it won't take me long to abandon ship.
