On Saturday I saw (no web presence sadly) some really good photos taken with a mobile phone (iPhone 6) , close up lens and led for illumination.
The subjects were on the bigger side e.g. butterflies, I can't remember now what the smallest size was now.
Has anyone tried either using a mobile or a led for illumination instead of a flash.
I have used a torch once and it worked ok (can't find the photo now).

I have used nothing but LED lighting for my macro photography the past two years. The Canon S120 I use has no hotshoe, and the G6 I started using this year I have no flash for. Both of the inbuilt flashes are not suitable. You can see some results here (external link) if you're interested. If you'd like more info or suggestions, I'd be happy to help.
