Well I know this lens is often touted as an awesome general lens, and I know the new II model is out and comes in about $1,500 CAD new.

Someone around me is selling the Canon EF 24-105mm 1:4 L IS USM for $550 CAD with little usage on it, bought as a kit back in 2018 with their camera. Reviews do show the II has some improvements over the original but for the price, is this lens worth buying to replace my EFS 18-135mm lense that came with my Canon 7d mark II?

I don't think you'd see much improvement in image quality using the 24-105 instead of the 18-135 on the 7D2. Also, you'd be losing the 18-24 range. I'd wait for the 24-105 until the time that you choose to move to a full-frame body.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

Looks like ( https://www.the-digital-picture.com …-3.5-5.6-IS-USM-Lens.aspx (external link) ) the 18-135 aperture stops down pretty quickly as you zoom, by 35mm it is a third of a stop slower than the 24-105.

The 24-105 isn't super sharp in the corners on FF, but on crop it is pretty darn nice. It also has some weather sealing that the 18-135 doesn't have. I'm a big fan of constant aperture zooms. Once you've shot with one it can be hard to go back.

They have been going for 400 USD well used down here.

if you plan on full frame in the future, then yes. I have that lens, and while some dog it, my copy, slightly stopped down, has been a workhorse for me. Lots of images from that lens on all of the crop and full frame bodies I've had.

Godox/Flashpoint r2 system, plus some canon stuff.

Say what you want but I love my 24-105, great images and covers most of what I want.

My 24-105 is on my 7D2 for probably 90% of my shots but I suppose it depends on your style of photography.

I loved the 24-105 on my 60D crop camera - it was my all-around lens for a lot of my travels. It does need a wide angle paired with it for landscapes on a crop though.

I haven't liked it nearly as much on the 6D - mainly due to the corner sharpness others have mentioned. I end up going wide with the 16-35, or jumping to the 70-200 on the full frame.
