You can specify an indefinite term starting at the document's signed date. I've been involved with such agreements with NDAs for companies where it looks like I'll be contracting for several years. Any legal agreement that in indeterminate is not a good idea for either of you. You can easily addend the original agreement. I would reject any licensing agreement that is indefinite.
