This is the former Baath party headquarters in the Green Zone.

Great shot. Is a lot of Bagdad like that now?

Nah, unlike wars of the past, the missiles these days are quite acurate. The only really "destroyed" buildings are government and army offices. The insurgents have done a "better" job of destroying buildings than the coalition forces.

This is in the Green Zone, by the way. The most fortified 4 square miles in the world. I don't go outside the Green Zone so the only view I get of the city is when I fly out in a Blackhawk helicopter. The only time I do that is every 4 months when I have to go to the airport to fly home for R&R.

Not really, I live on a military base so we have a lot of the comforts of home. Been here almost 3 years so I have gotten used to it.

Kitchner Ontario, eh? I was an equipment manager for the Carolina Hurricanes for 6 years before I came over here. We used to have a rookie tournament in Kitchner every year during training camp.

Cool. Do the canes know where you are now? They should send you a few dozen hockey sticks and balls so you guys can play some street hockey in you spare time. Cheers to you and all your boys.

Yeah, they released me to let me come over here, I have a job with them when I come home. They send street hockey equipment every year and I get emails from the guys about once a week.

Not to get off topic, but looks like the 'Canes might make a serious run for the Stanley Cup. (Hopefully Montreal can put them out early, if they make the playoffs.)

Thanks for posting and thanks for your service.

I have seen some of your bird shots and find them interesting. It is refreshing to get candid images from over there. From nature shots to shots like the one above, they are different from the "news" shots we get. The "news" guys have an agenda, whether it is to portray their opinion on the war or to shock us with sad or dramatic images they lack the simple documentary aspect your images have.

Please keep posting! I would be interested in anything you have from there. The animals are different than I have seen and the war images are interesting as well.

Be safe and thank you.

Nice shot, I'd like to see it up closer though. Be safe over there.
