I was trying to point the telescope towards IC443 and while taking a test shot, I saw this in my photo. I know that it is the November meteor shower tonight / tomorrow night.

This was taken with a Canon EOS 1000D modified with an Astronomik CLS filter on my telescope. Thanks.

Looks more like a satellite flare. Nice catch though.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

The EXIF information for this photo indicates it was taken at 01:05:46 tonight. That means it couldn't have been a satellite, as a satellite would have been in Earth's shadow at that time. If you actually saw it going over, you would be the best judge of whether or not it was a meteor. A satellite goes over at about the same apparent speed as a high-flying jet, while a meteor travels much faster and will usually only last a second or two before fading from sight. Also, the track at the bottom appears broader that the track at the top, which would indicate that the meteor broke up, but continued for a little longer. I think it would have to have been a meteor. Just a guess, though as I didn't see it and your photo doesn't include the entire track.

Thank you everyone. I have checked Stellarium and there were no satellites in the vicinity at the time. There was a Cosmos satellite around 5 minutes earlier. The green colour looks to me like it is reacting with the air as it hits the atmosphere. This is why I think this could be a meteor rather than a satellite.

The photo was taken through the telescope as I was trying to find something interesting to photograph. Something that annoyed me for the last two months is that the sky was clear when the moon was past the first quarter, and last month during the full moon.

Thank you.
