In the picture you will notice what to me looks like a smudge that was on the lens. If you look at the two small children on the right side of the picture you will definitely see what I am talking about. I will also post the link to download the full file from my Flickr. I will also add on Flickr a different picture that maybe you can copy and paste from. I have tried with no good results. Thanks!! https://www.flickr.com/cameraroll/ (external link)

loosely select the entire head from the better photo and copy and paste it onto the other pic

make the new layer 50 percent transparent/opaque and select the transform option

scale and place the new head, return opacity to 100 percent

create a layer mask and mask off around the head

if needed, create another new layer in between the two to clone in any area from the background that doesn't quite work. In this one, the child's right ear did not match up

camera shake or bad focus from the large group photo makes the child's head a little sharper, i would probably do a soft blur to keep it from not standing out so much.

Next time, let your camera equipment warm up outside for a little while before you start shooting. The "smudge" is probably condensation on the lens from taking the camera out of an air conditioned environment into a warm, humid environment in July.

Carry a microfiber cloth or lens tissue with you and clean your lens before shooting. Also, remove any UV filter that you might have on the lens to protect the front element - just another piece of glass to interfere with the image.

Follow LHB's instructions above and you should be good to go.

the lens funk is on the "better" image too. Either something big on the lens or some huge smudge on the sensor.

It actually wasn't that. I had my jeep with the top off. I really think there was a smudge on the lens. Cleaning the lens is usually the first thing I do before I do a shoot. For some reason I didn't do it this time must be. Not long after these few shots we went to a better place with not as much harsh sunlight and i switched to my 70-200 lens.

I made a few extra adjustments. Added some contrast and sharpening to the image.
