After buying the original R, I decided to get a MFT kit for for longer reach with better AF for tracking birds. Decided I really didn’t want three different systems, so I sold my M50 and EF-M lenses. Having an APS-C now, it made sense to give it another go and as a Tamron “VIP” I get a $100 rebate, so after trading off some of my MFT gear it put $120 in my pocket. Figure it will be on the M6-II most of the time when size isn’t an issue, good for pulling over quick for either a landscape or a bird in the sky. I did not know about Tamron 18-400mm until I saw your post today.

Sample photo thread is here: https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1490349 Short story, this is the second time I’ve bought this lens. I was a bit harsh on it in the review I did, but I had bought it with a different purpose in mind when I owned different cameras (M50, 80D, R) and lenses (several EF and EF-S). At that time I decided to return it because I had other lenses that covered the same range (just not all in one) and I thought the performance didn’t match the price. Granted, I came to that decision on very little use. The lens gets 4.5 stars on BH, Adorama, and Amazon so people definitely like it and I’ve seen great shots taken with it. Now, 18 months later I only have the R and sold all my EF/EF-S lenses (except 100mm 2.8L and 100-400mm II) in favor of RF lenses and sold the M50 and EF-M lenses in favor of MFT. I just got a new M6 Mark II (giving up on MFT), and the longest you can go with EF-M is 200mm so this lens makes much more sense to me now than it did before. I was considering the EF-S 55-250mm but my plan for the M6 is a everyday, in the car, always have a good camera handy camera and the 18-400mm mega range suits that to a T. For those unexpected opportunities I didn’t want to have to worry about swapping a lens when time may be limited. Way more info than you asked for, but wanted to explain why I have a considerably different opinion of this lens than I did before. Performance wise, I think it is a great value considering the range. The first one I had got noticeably softer when pushed all the way to 400mm, not “bad” just noticeable. Other than that, it does a great job.
