100-400II on the M50 with the speed booster, making this a 285mm (440 equiv 35mm instead of 640mm) at f4.

Well, with the R5 on the horizon, I have returned to the EF-M family. After buying the original R, I decided to get a MFT kit for for longer reach with better AF for tracking birds. Decided I really didn’t want three different systems, so I sold my M50 and EF-M lenses.

Fast forward and I now have an R5 on order. Resolves the AF issues And the RF 100-500mm with TC takes care of reach. So I decided to sell the MFT gear to help pay for it. With MFT going away, makes sense to rejoin the EF-M crowd for a compact kit.

Went with an M6 Mark II/18-150mm kit via Cpricewatch. As luck would have it, local store had a 22mm, 15–45mm, and Canon adapter in their used case - all in spotless condition. Snagged all three for a total of $265 out the door.

Glad to be back, just never really warmed up to the MFT stuff.

Things inside my belt pouch
Wallet, phone, EOS M10 with Industar-69 pancake with m39-eosM adapter for street, Jupiter-8 50mm f2 m39 mount for portraits, 15-45mn kit lens.
I have also space for a EF 50mm f1.8 for night shots or a small 135mm manual telephoto, m42 mount.

My belt pouch was stolen from the car trunk. They broke the small rear door window and got access to the back. They must had seen me putting the pouch inside the car.
I lost the kit lens, Industar pancake and EF 50mm 1.8 together with the camera and adapters. I must say I was not very sad to part with the camera as the camera-lens handling, the slow AF and lack of viewfinder made it difficult for me to use it.

Picked up the Tamron 18-400mm EF-S to go with the M6-II, had one before and ended up returning it since the crop circle never cleared on the R.

Having an APS-C now, it made sense to give it another go and as a Tamron “VIP” I get a $100 rebate, so after trading off some of my MFT gear it put $120 in my pocket. Figure it will be on the M6-II most of the time when size isn’t an issue, good for pulling over quick for either a landscape or a bird in the sky.

I did not know about Tamron 18-400mm until I saw your post today.
Interesting and a very suitable for travel I must say.
I have M50 w/ EF-M 15-45 and EF-M 55-200.
In an attempt to get bit longer reach (and also keep it light enough), I was looking at options like EF-S 55-250 or EF 70-300 IS ii (to replace the EF-M 55-200)
I do have EF 70-300L, but that will make it a heavy package for a travel lite option.
Now the Tamron has tickled my interest.
Would appreciate your view on it's performance. Please do share.

There are a couple review threads on it (including one from me) and a sample photo thread. Sample photo thread is here:

https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1490349

Short story, this is the second time I’ve bought this lens. I was a bit harsh on it in the review I did, but I had bought it with a different purpose in mind when I owned different cameras (M50, 80D, R) and lenses (several EF and EF-S).

At that time I decided to return it because I had other lenses that covered the same range (just not all in one) and I thought the performance didn’t match the price. Granted, I came to that decision on very little use. The lens gets 4.5 stars on BH, Adorama, and Amazon so people definitely like it and I’ve seen great shots taken with it.

Now, 18 months later I only have the R and sold all my EF/EF-S lenses (except 100mm 2.8L and 100-400mm II) in favor of RF lenses and sold the M50 and EF-M lenses in favor of MFT. I just got a new M6 Mark II (giving up on MFT), and the longest you can go with EF-M is 200mm so this lens makes much more sense to me now than it did before.

I was considering the EF-S 55-250mm but my plan for the M6 is a everyday, in the car, always have a good camera handy camera and the 18-400mm mega range suits that to a T. For those unexpected opportunities I didn’t want to have to worry about swapping a lens when time may be limited.

Way more info than you asked for, but wanted to explain why I have a considerably different opinion of this lens than I did before. Performance wise, I think it is a great value considering the range. The first one I had got noticeably softer when pushed all the way to 400mm, not “bad” just noticeable. Other than that, it does a great job.

Thank you so very much for your insight.
It should surely help me in my decision.
M50 is going to be my lite travel setup and for don't want to repent (for not having the gear at hand) for the opportunities presented.
As I said, light setup but good enough not to be disappointed is the key.
For all other regular situations I do have 7DII, 5DM3 and 100-400mm II and also the 400mm f/5.6 to cover.
I am feeling positive about this Tamron, Will look at your link and search for other revies.
Thanks again...
