Took my “little” camera to meet my new grandson today. The EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 lens just shines on the M6 II

Good day at the local camera store!

I have been using an EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 and a Sigma 8-16mm in EF mount with adapter on my M6 Mark II. The 17-55mm because of the fast aperture unavailable in the EF-M lenses, and the Sigma for ultra wide. Using these lenses with my “compact” camera system really took away the compactness of it.

I already have the Venus Laowa 9mm f/2.8, Canon 22mm f/2, and Sigma 30mm f/1.4 so pretty much have the focal lengths covered with faster prime lenses.

The 8-16mm hasn’t been used since I picked up the Venus Laowa 9mm f/2.8, and after a little thought decided if I sold the 17-55mm and 8-16mm lenses, I could get the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 and make my M kit “compact” again AND have fast apertures through the use of primes.

Knowing those two lenses weren’t going to fetch a lot on trade, maybe $350 combined, and needing to clear out a bunch of other misc stuff (bags, straps, flash modifiers, pouches, monopods, tripods, etc.) I’ve gathered over the years I loaded everything into a big tub and headed out. My hope was for everything to get me as close as possible to the $429 needed for the Sigma 56mm or maybe even a little more. I was thinking best case, $500-$550 trade value.

Felt bad for the woman who had to write it all up, literally took over an hour to catalogue and check everything, another 20 minutes to figure prices and when all was said and done they offered me $815, roughly $300 more than I was expecting! They do a “for everything” offer without breaking it down with price for each piece so I honestly don’t know what they gave me for each item. All I can think of is they were more lenient with the tripods and cases than I was expecting.

Came home with the Sigma 56mm f/1.4, AND the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 (so now I have whole “set” 16/30/56mm f/1.4 primes) for a whopping $13 out of pocket.

Looking forward to some Grandkid shots with that 56mm.

I think you have sold it to me too! I have the Canon 32mm f/1.4 and really like it. This one weighs about the same. Really nice flower images.

Last December I went back and forth between the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 and Canon 32mm f/1.4. All the reviews I looked at pretty much had them at a tie with a few minor nits on the Sigma (slightly different color cast, slightly slower AF). In the end, I choose the Sigma 30mm for two reasons, $200 cheaper at the time and in stock vs. the 32mm that was not available/back ordered.

Been very happy with the Sigma 30mm and I am looking forward to using the trio now. Need to think of something to test out the 16mm on tomorrow. Maybe some landscape shots on my morning walk if the weather cooperates.
