Recently my wife has started getting more and more into photography and its becoming a race when we go out to see who can get to the camera faster so I think its time to purchase a second body/system. At this point I'm not 100% sold on sticking with m43.

Size and weight isn't a factor with this camera and to be honest I still am not comfortable handling my gx85 after two years even with a grip on it. I previously owned a gripped canon 7D and felt so much more comfortable with the handling of it.

Some other things I'm looking for in this new camera/system,

Better autofocus/continuous focus/tracking (we have two year old twins who never want to sit still nor do I want them to. I want a camera that can freeze them in action playing and being themselves.)

Low light performance/high iso performance (we take alot of photos of them indoors were I try to avoid flash and it wont be long til they start playing indoor sports so thats a consideration as well)

Battery life is another factor I'm finding the batteries just dont last long on these m43 cameras.

At this point I think all factors are pushing me to go back to canon or trying out Sony. I'm thinking full frame for the low light/iso performance is the way to go. I'd only be looking to purchase a body and a 70-200 F2.8 lens since my wife will still be using the Panasonic with our olympic 12-40 F2.8 lens.

Lets hears some suggestions and see what you all can talk me into or away from!

Gripped Nikon D810, S35 F1.4 Art, S50 F1.4 Art, Nikon 85 F1.8G, Tamron 70-200 F2.8 G2, Godox Xpro N, (2) Godox AD200, Godox AD600pro

Do you intend to also use the m43 if so go Canon the zoom works in the same direction, not sure if the R has a 70-210 though.

I would try out a E-M1 mkII. Feels better in the hand and uses phase detect instead of Panny's DFD which is contrast AF and isn't really designed to work with Oly lenses. One thing that gets a little over looked using m4/3's in lowlight "action" is that you can use the glass wide open but still maintain a good depth of field.

We are going to keep the m43 gear and with my wife being new to photography that's a good point to keep it simple for her learning and getting use to everything.

That's one of the options I'm looking at or the panasonic g9 with current sales going the body isn't priced to bad at $1200. With either body I'd go with the olympus 40-150 F2.8 pro lens to pair with our Olympus 12-40 F2.8 pro.

Looks like the opposite is happening and I'm going to invest more into m43. Came across way to good of a deal on a gx8 and 35-100 F2.8 to pass up.

Buy the G9. It's an infinitely better and more versatile camera than the GX8.

The 35-100 is decent though :)

I wasnt planning on buying the gx8 but he's throwing it in with the lens for $100 so if the shutter count is low and its is good shape it'll be a good second body or I can flip it and sell it and my gx85 to go towards a g9.

Do shutter counts matter with mirrorless since there aren't any moving parts?
