Hi,
Is it possible to use Sigma 17-50mm with 6d2 at some FL. I was thinking about getting M50 and sell 80d. But ended up placing order for 6d2 . I have 50mm, 100mm, sigma 100mm macro FF lens to use with 6D2. 10-18mm, 17-50 and 55-250 all are crop lens. I still want to keep sigma 17-50mm. Planning to get M50 later.

I have that Sigma, it's for a crop sensor only. I can't use it on my 6D. Too bad, it's a good lens.

Canon is the only one using that EF-S mount with the rubber stop that keeps it from using it on the FF cameras. You can mount any Sigma, Tamron or Tokina lens that is for crop on a FF body, but it wont cover the entire sensor. The mount is EF so it fits. You could use and just crop. I know a few people that do that for some stuff since they cant afford a FF version and it works fine. You dont get as high res an image though but depending on usage it can be fine.

Thanks for the information. Is there any FL where it can cover FF sensor.

Normally no. It will go in and out depending on the lens. I know there was someone on this forum about 5 years ago that found out that the 17-40mm F4L mount fits onto the 10-22mm so you can mount it onto the 1.3x crop 1D cameras. You need to use it at 12mm or so otherwise the back element hits the mirror. It would just barely cover the 1.3 crop sensor and still have dark corners. That is more a mod though, for this generally no but that is a per lens with some giving a larger image circle and others being smaller.

Let us know when you find the answer. It's common that a zoom will work at the longer end.

Should work.

Anything greater than 30mm on the zoom will be better served with the 50mm prime.

Just mount the lens and see if any of the focal length works for you. Won't hurt the camera any, it will mount and isn't an EFS lens so no issues with mirrors.

One trick to using these crop lenses is to add a 1.4x to them, and many times the vignetting will be nearly eliminated.

What would happen if you mounted the crop lens to the camera via a short extension tube??? Just curious.

Like a print enlarger, or presentation type projector, the further the lens is from the sensor, the larger the projected image. This magnification lengthens the effective focal length of the lens, but also keeps the lens from focusing at infinity and longer distances.
