I think is is crazy that Canon will not give you a repair quote for something that should be standard, but they really won't will they? My M6 sensor stack/filter/screen whatever you want to call it, is not in great shape, so I wanted to find out if I should try to get it replaced or just buy a refurb.

No, I have to send it in.

Anyone had this replaced on an M-series in the US or have a cost estimate? If it is closer to $200 I would have it done, if $400 then I wouldn't bother and use it as a travel/high risk camera. I'm suspecting it is closer to the $400+ and not worth it.

FYI there are some discounted M6 (with or without lenses) refurbs available right now.

And if you got this far and really want to know how I got the sensor messed up, it's with a lot of mountain conditions, 30-60mph winds, ice, snow, dust, grit etc.. The body has held up perfectly, but the sensor not so much.

I don't believe that Canon actually repairs M series camera's, they just exchange. Canon has been selling referb M6's for $370.

Another option is to contact lifepixel.com. They perform IR conversions on these cameras for $275. They should have perfectly good standard filters from comverted camera's to replace yours.

From the lifepixel FAQ;
I have a scratched sensor, can you help me?
Absolutely! We can replace your scratched sensor assembly's low pass filter with a scratch free filter. We only use original manufacturer filters and all work is performed in a class 5 clean air environment for a 100% dust free repair. Learn more about scratched sensor repair.

The scratched sensor repair order can be placed on our website at the order now page.

Cheers

Thanks. Makes sense, I figured it would be pretty much cheaper to replace. I bought one of those refurbs.
