Are there problems with some photography-related websites today (black Friday)?

I've tried to get into SmugMug repeatedly, in many different ways. . Can't get in no way no how on my computer. . Yet on my cell phone I get right in to my account. . Weird.

I try to just type the address into the address bar and hit enter. . Nothing. . Says "This site can't be reached." . Then I try to go via a link they sent in an email. . Still nothing but the same error message. . Then I go into my history and try to click on the various links there. . Still nothing. . So weird.

I'm also trying to get in to Adorama Pix to order some big metal prints. . No luck whatsoever. . Again, I am trying to get into AdoramaPix via clicking links in emails from them, via direct typing into the address bar, and via my history. . Adorama is working fine, but AdoramaPix is a complete failure. . I sure as freaking heck better get my 35% off my print order, because that is what they promised and a website failure on their end should not be my problem and should not keep me from getting the full discount.

I've tried both Chrome and Safari browsers and there is no difference.

Has anyone else had any trouble getting in to these sites quickly today?

This is the 21st century - you'd think these websites and servers would be able to handle unlimited volume and work flawlessly, no matter how many millions of users were online at the same time.

THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Please log in to see the good quality stuff.

I now see that here on POTN, images that are hosted by SmugMug are not loading, but images hosted by other websites load just fine. . This is not at all acceptable to me, as I need and demand access to my SmugMug website 24/7/365, no exceptions.

I just wrote SmugMug's so-called "support heroes" an email asking them what in the world is going on, and to make this right.

Having to wait and wait to get onto a website - what is this - the early 1990's?????? . Sheesh! . Angry and frustrated.

I've been on my Smugmug page/account numerous times today, including 5 seconds ago just to double check before I commented here.

Interesting ...... via a full-fledged computer, or via a pad or phone?

Thanks for the feedback. . Have no idea what the issue may be. . My internet connection is working marvelously with all other websites.

This image suggests that the probl m might lie with your internet service provider. If what I suggested VIA pm doesn't help, with would call them and suggest they take a look at your modem/router firewall settings or potentially their SSL/DNS settings that might be blocking that data from getting to your computer.

One troubleshooting method might be to go to a bookstore or coffee house ... if you have a laptop ... and see if it works there. Of course, if they have the same ISP, you would probably have the same problem.

Another way to narrow down the problem ... If you turn off your cellphone data, and run the internet through your home WiFi you might be able to replicate the problem on the phone. Generally the phone would run on wifi given the chance, but that is not guaranteed depending on how you have it set up. If you turn off cellular data, and confirm a connection to your home network, it would have to go through wifi.

Tom I would think this problem has probably corrected itself by now. But if it hasn't it may be a DNS problem. Change the DNS to another one such as Google Public DNS (external link)and the problem may clear up.

Another short cut to get around those type of problems is to use the turbo function of Opera (external link). Opera is a browser more common in Europe than in the US but it still a full function browser. It has a function on it called turbo that is designed to strip a website of some functions so someone with a slow ISP will have faster service. That is not your problem but what that function does is that it routes the service through their servers to accomplish that. Doing this it changes the path to certain sites and this will allow you to bypass some types of DNS problems.

May or may not correct your problems but it is simple enough to do that it is worth a try.

I don't disagree that a different browser could solve the problem, but I still think Toms best plan is to go to his ISP to get the security things ironed out. Especially, all due respect tom :D, considering his tech experience.

Some sites are running slow for me today and yesterday, including POTN at times. Maybe maintenance crews are shorthanded on the holiday weekend?
