Nice variety and quality Brian. On the first one, I notice that some flys have an appendage under their wing on the side, shaped like a lollipop. I wonder what function it has?

Thanks for the comments Lester and Ed - appreciated :)

The lollipop things are called Halteres, they are the vestigial remains of the hind wing so all diptera have them - supposed to help with balance in flight.
