Huawei Mate 20 Pro

Triple Leica lenses, 40MP Wide, 20MP Ultra Wide, 8MP Telephoto...I just got this phone and it is very promising as a companion phone for a photographer.

Night mode and super macro focusing look really cool, as do the 0.6 ultra wide shots.

I haven't given it much of a run out yet but I'll be sure to add photos here when I do.

If anyone else has this, feel free to add your photos too.

Nice! i'm looking forward to seeing some Mate 20 Pro photos here. I wish i had that device instead of the P20 Pro.

I'm heading to the Christmas markets in Bruges, Belgium on Saturday so it'll get some good use I think. Weather looks pretty poor so it'll be easier to shoot with the phone than keep getting my DSLR in and out of a bag!

Sounds good! yes use that day to experiment with the phone camera. But i recommend you practice with it so you know how to handle it on Saturday. And do shoot RAW along with jpeg's.

So here's a very quick effort during an after work Christmas shopping trip!

4 shots from the same spot, in order of, 0.6x, 1x, 3x & 5x. The 5x is a hybrid of the 3x zoom lens and digital zoom.

Also, these were shot with Night mode which seems to be an HDR mode that takes multiple exposures. Needs more investigation!

It looks pretty good so far, with one exception. The zoomed photo is very 'watercoloury', i would avoid using the zoom lens unless you have daylight type situations or if you shoot raw with it. About the Night Mode, it works by shooting multiple exposures much like a bracketing sequence on your DSLR. Then it stacks different parts from the different brackets into one single exposure. The RAW mode works in a similar way internally, it shoots a series of RAW files, stacks them together into one single DNG, this helps reduce noise, boost dynamic range and improve details.
