I recently opened my first Instagram account (dog photography) and received a message today from a leash company saying they like my photos and would like for me to be a "brand ambassador". I'm a newbie when it comes to IG, so not entirely sure what a brand ambassador entails? Has anyone else done something similar?

I'm sorry, but I can't answer your question. . I have never had any experience having a company work with me in the way that company wants to work with you.

I am very interested in knowing what kind of compensation they offer you to be their "ambassador". . Hopefully, they offer you meaningful financial compensation, and don't try to get you to do this for a free dog leash

Could you please post a link to your Instagram page? . I would be interested in knowing what photos attracted the interest of a product manufacturer.

Thanks.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I know a guy who knows a guy who was paid 7000 CDN to drive around some tourist area and post pics for a month. This person is super established and has a ton of followers though.

I have worked in marketing and promotions most of my life and know that these kid of sponsorships are based on likes/impressions. I guess that's kinda obvious, but my gut tells me they are trying to bring you on board at least in part as a way of wrapping you up so the other leash companies don't grab you. They may see the potential in what you are doing.

I would have them make an offer and see what the put on the table. Make sure it is something that will grow with you as your account grows. I would also be very cautious of long term exclusive deals.

Appreciate the replies. Well it looks like this is a classic case of too good to be true. I did a little digging on the company and found an article about them explaining their scheme. They get you to buy their products at a 30% discount (still have to pay shipping...) and then simply tag you in the photo you took of your dog with their product. Ultimately it comes down to you buying their products. Nothing in it for me :(

I recently opened my first Instagram account.....

That would be the part that indicates it is basically a scam/trick. Unless your new account went viral and gained 150,000 followers overnight it is basically of zero value for advertising/promoting product. Therefore any such offers are either a straight up scam or, in this case, a shady attempt to trick you into buying stuff.

What was the name of the leash company? My son mentioned something similar to me. (He is much more into social media than I am)

They offer everyone a discount. It's to trick you into thinking you are special, in case the vanity flattery of being asked to be an "ambassador" isn't enough to hook you.

Real brand ambassadors get paid or at least get given loads of worthwhile kit. I have a couple of friends who are brand ambassadors. One gets money (doesn't actually need the product so that would be no good) while the other gets every single item of Fujifilm camera/equipment free as soon as it comes out (sometimes before).
