I have been using Lightroom version 6 to view Google Map data from my Canon 5D mkIV but evidently Adobe no longer supports the map function in the "non-rental" version of Lightroom. Does Canon's Digital Photo Professional link to Google Maps? I see the GPS icon showing on the thumbnails in DPP but can't get anywhere. I have several thousand photos with gps encoded data but can't figure out how to view the map info. Or is there a work-around? Can anyone help? Thanks.

Canon has a program called EOS Map Utility for that. I’ve never used it myself with my 7Dii but it’s mentioned in the user manual. It’s available for download in the SW section of the 7Dii support page, and presumably the 5Div’s as well.

I have an orange cat and a brown cat. In HSL, they're both orange.

With respect to DPP version 4.9.20.0, the manual seems to indicate that it does provide "shooting location" info. Since the software is free and easy to install, give it a test.

That is probably the latitude/longitude and perhaps altitude as text. I interpreted the question as wanting to see the location as a point on some sort of map by selecting the image and the location simply appearing on the screes, as in Lightroom.

It is still worth noting that the text can be copied and pasted into the search window of google (or other) maps, but it isn't as convenient as Lightroom.

You may be correct, but to my knowledge GPS algorithms only save latitude & longitude. These can be readily converted to a physical named location but that would be somewhat tedious as the OP states "have several thousand photos". Basically you want to do the following:

1. On your computer, open Google Maps.

2. In the search box at the top, type your coordinates. Here are examples of formats that work:

Degrees, minutes, and seconds (DMS): 41°24'12.2"N 2°10'26.5"E

Degrees and decimal minutes (DMM): 41 24.2028, 2 10.4418

Decimal degrees (DD): 41.40338, 2.17403

3. You'll see a pin show up at your coordinates.

I'm pretty sure that I said that, when I said the information was saved as text.

Albeit in less detail, that is what I said too- copy the text (see below)

As you noted, this is good for a few photos, but not very good if the OP wants to see all their pictures on the map.

Thanks all for the lively conversation. I noticed I had Canon Map Utility already installed on my computer and it seems to meet my needs (thanks mcoren for pointing this program out). When I select the files for CMU does it just make a small link to the program or do all the photos get copied to another folder, thus using much more hard drive space. If it just makes a link I'm guessing I can connect all my files to CMU in under an hour. Although not as quick and easy as being incorporated into Lightroom it will work but a couple extra steps are involved.

The manual for CMU ver 1.8 can be found at http://gdlp01.c-wss.com …27448/01/mu-1-8-im-en.pdf (external link).

Update:

I downloaded "Google Earth Pro", a free program. It works in tandem with Map Utility and ends up working just like Lightroom's Map feature (though a couple extra steps are required). Works great.

Still burned at Adobe for essentially turning off a feature in a program that I paid for to coerce me into signing up for their subscription plan. If you subscribe to Lightroom they keep the feature working so there is no problem from the Google side. Incidentally Adobe did the same thing with Photoshop Elements 2018 (which I purchased several months ago). Elements 2018 had the same mapping program built-in that is now turned off too. However if you get Elements 2019 the map program is back and working.

Is it possible that Google is charging for access to the maps? Other sites have been moving off google. Please note this conversation in another forum: https://www.pilotsofamerica.com …on-www-vfrmap-com.115971/ (external link)
I do have the Adobe Creative Cloud Classic subscription and the maps stopped working until I got updated again back in November.

Bingo! While Adobe is pretty much the only game in town we suffer. I’m waiting for history to repeat itself (Lotus, WordPerfect, dBase, etc).
