This lens was purchased by mistake. How does one buy a lens by mistake?

Well... I made the purchase off of Ebay, I've owned the Canon mount version of the Sigma 150mm macro OS for a number of years. It's a stellar lens and if you are in the need of OS and want a quality macro lens, the Sigma 150mm OS is hard to beat. I recently made the leap to Nikon and wanted to replace the Canon version of the lens I owned. I went on Ebay, found the Sigma 150mm macro ex and thought I would place a bid. Little did I know or think, I would win the bid. The lens sold for $298... a screaming deal for the OS version of this lens.

The lens arrived and I wondered why it was lighter and smaller than the Sigma macro I owned....lol... well... I didn't pay attention and I missed the fact this wasn't the OS version of the lens.

I thought about sending it back and then I took a moment to reflect on my previous macro lenses, none of which ever had OS/IS/VR and I did just fine with them. The lens arrived and it's mint condition. Nice!

After shooting with it, I can honestly recommend this to anyone looking to shoot macro photography. To my eye, it's the same quality, clarity, sharpness, bokeh, as the OS version without the extra weight. The AF locks on really well if you need it. A lot of my macro shots are taken using manual focus but it's nice to have AF as well.

The lens is light enough to comfortably shoot hand-held and I didn't find myself missing the OS at all. I'm almost thankful it isn't on the lens as I do miss the added weight. It's only a 1/2 lb difference...but noticeable. Add the camera, a grip, batteries and every little weight savings are appreciated.

I also tend to use a monopod..again...no real need for OS (person shooting style) IMO.

If you can find one of these and you are in the market, I highly recommend you purchase one. They are going for $350-500 at the time of this post...on Ebay or even used on Amazon. It's a little older lens but it does a great job!

Overall, I'm glad my mistake turned out to be a blessing in disguise. :)

Some shots to share.
