I'll probably be visiting Sin City over the winter holidays for a family get together although plans are still fluid at this time. Since I am not a big casino guy, I am thinking of peeling away with my son for some birding while we are there.

Any Vegas peeps on POTN who can give me some advice on where to go? I would like to see some unique Great Basin species if possible that I may not get in Western Oregon or coastal SoCal.

Thanks in advance!

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I do not know, unfortunately, whether this post is relevant ... But if it decided to fly to Vegas, then look at the events on the site https://best-vegas.com/broadway-shows/ (external link). The city of Las Vegas is very hot and you need a lot of money, but there are really cheap places. A luxurious oasis in the midst of the endless desert. Twice was in Las Vegas and, of course, the first feeling was the strongest. The most interesting thing is to walk along the main street, where in the forty-degree heat each shop and shop are equipped with air conditioning, spraying cool water onto the hot bodies of tourists. Hotels here are original, luxurious, astounding. I was most impressed by the Belaggio fountain opposite the hotel of the same name. In the evening, a free light-music show begins: a water dance is performed for the most popular fountain jet compositions. In the hotel "Bellagio" there is a buffet, offers to taste the most delicious dishes and desserts of Vegas. And the most unusual design, in my opinion, is at the Venice Hotel, where gondolas float along the canals. Write to me in private messages. I am pleased to tell you about the city.

Best place is Henderson Bird viewing Preserve. Cinnamon Teal. Grebes. Thrasher.

Then, go up on Mt Charleston for some western specialties like Clark’s Nutcracker, Townsend Solitaire, Pygmy Nuthatch.

Good luck.

Keep 'em flying,
