Las Vegas peeps - good birding spots?

I'll probably be visiting Sin City over the winter holidays for a family get together although plans are still fluid at this time. Since I am not a big casino guy, I am thinking of peeling away with my son for some birding while we are there.

Any Vegas peeps on POTN who can give me some advice on where to go? I would like to see some unique Great Basin species if possible that I may not get in Western Oregon or coastal SoCal.

Hotels here are original, luxurious, astounding. I was most impressed by the Belaggio fountain opposite the hotel of the same name. In the evening, a free light-music show begins: a water dance is performed for the most popular fountain jet compositions. In the hotel "Bellagio" there is a buffet, offers to taste the most delicious dishes and desserts of Vegas. Best place is Henderson Bird viewing Preserve. Cinnamon Teal. Grebes. Thrasher.

Then, go up on Mt Charleston for some western specialties like Clark’s Nutcracker, Townsend Solitaire, Pygmy Nuthatch.
