My local jessops has a sign up saying 30D in stock - but not visible on the display shelf. they don't have much of anything else either - the store is full of tat, but after I left, i could barely remember what was in there - poor quality tripods, small range of own brand and lowepro bags, good selevtion of overpriced point and shooters, and consumer zooms for noink and Canon. And 4 bored, spotty gits...

Canon 6D
Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 , Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 macro
CanonEF 17-40 f/4 L Canon EF 24-70 f/4 IS L and 70-200 f/4 L :D
Speedlite 580EX and some bags'n pods'n stuff

I agree, the sad thing is I remember when Leicester Jessop's used to be about the best camera shop there was.

I went to the Beckton, Essex branch today and not only did they have a spanky new 5D in stock, I got 'em to price match Warehouse Express too! Very happy here!

Jessops has it for 1100 for the body. An extra 270 out of your hard earned money. I just refuse to buy things from this store. Their prices are outrageous.

Sandisk Extreme III CompactFlash - 4GB

Amazon = £146.20
Jessops = £441.99

Nuff Said... the only time its worth going to Jessops for camera stuff is when you have a shotgun and a ski-mask:D

Jessops sounds like Ritz over here in the US. Flaming joke in their stores. Clueless clerks and useless stock as far as the serious amateur is concerned.

I don't remember Jessops when I lived in the UK. I used to rely on several local one-off places but I think they all eventually got gobbled-up by the large chains.

I went to the one in Harrogate when I was over there. It was dissapointing to go into an electronics store and realize how horrible it was! Don't know how they sell anything. Even the minor stuff was overpriced... :-(

It's becoming difficult to tell Jessops and Dixons apart these days.

Putting Jessops aside a min, from what little I know of the 30D it sounds like the consumer market has at last woken up to Canons.. Bung a new body to the market campain and have stood thier ground with continuing to buy the 20D and 350d.

PS: I can't remember the last time I was in Jessops, my BS detector goes on major overload when ever I go near the place! :)

To be BRUTALLY HONEST the only reason Jessops ever got so big was because it consistantly undercut everyone else's prices, thus beating the other little local camera stores some of which offered the most fantastic customer support and service.
They continued that policy up until last year when they sudenly realised that they couldn't undercut the 'online only ' stores. Not only couldn't they undercut them , they couldn't even match them.

So my guess is Jessops will go they way of those very stores THEY undercut for so many years. I have nothing against Jessops or their service, I have spent a lot of money ion their stores, but if they can't keep up pricewise then they lose my custom. It's their choice.

FYI their is a voucher offer from Jessops in last weeks Amatuer Photographer Weekly where jessops offer to price match any other advert or offer in the mag!

Certainly worth going in and make them sell you a Sandisk Extreme 3 for £51, which was the cheapest I saw in the mag!

The Jessops branch I went into would not price match and just laughed at me when I asked. Was initially told the manager was not there and only he could look at price matching, and then when mentioned Warehouse Express I got told they don't match there prices.
Was only looking for a 5D and a 24-70 f2.8l. They quoted me just over 500 more that Warehouse Express.
When I mentioned the stickers in the store saying they check prices so you dont have to and showed them a print off from Warehouse Express they said that was a site they did not check...

Have now just about given up on them, agree they are joke (unless you get the one staff member who knows something about photography and has a genuine interest in helping you - extremely rare...)

What's a joke is that they pretend they don't check warehouseexpress!
It is warehouseexpress that they are perfectly aware is their MAIN competitor

i think some of jessops problems come from the managers themselves. I went to two different stores. One in colchester, essex (the staff were rude and ignorant) and the store looked like it was closing down for good, grubby and dull. Went to the chelmsford, essex store, and it was a complete opposite. the staff were very helpful and the store was bright and clean, i didn't spot the 30d, but i was looking at the 350d's at the time so i didn't pay special attention to other camera's.
