It's a 7D ii, and as a bird shooter i will see if it's an upgrade to the 1D4 or not. All i need now is some weather and time but it'll stay on my lenses until i get a fair assessment of it.
I will be interested in how it compares to the 1D4.
I've been shooting the 1D4 for years, and have often wondered if a 7D2 would serve me better. . Friends who have owned both the 7D2 and the 1D4 have told me that I wouldn't be happy with a 7D2 ..... they each got rid of theirs because they didn't like the image quality. . But I'd like other people's insights on this, as well, because I want to at least try to keep an open mind about the options before me.
I guess the thing that is most important to me in a 7D2 / 1D4 comparison is how much fine noise there is at 1600 ISO, especially in dark out-of-focus background areas of the images. . I don't and won't use noise reduction, so my interest is solely on how noisy it is straight out of the camera, not on how well it "cleans up".
Isn't it funny that after all these years, we are still concerned about the same things when it comes to one body vs. another body?
I think that if I were "reach challenged", and often wishing that I could get closer to animals and birds, then the 7D2 would already be in my bag. . But I don't have trouble getting close enough to fill the frame the way I want to, so that one advantage (pixel density) does not apply to my needs.
Anyway, it'll be interesting to see which body you prefer for your bird & wildlife shooting.
