ok. its used, BUT it came with a battery grip and batteries. also, all said and done, 1/2 the price of a new version without the grip.

it's a 7D ii, and as a bird shooter i will see if it's an upgrade to the 1D4 or not. all i need now is some weather and time but it'll stay on my lenses until i get a fair assessment of it.

I regularly see your bird photo's taken with your 1d4 in "Post your best bird portrait" forum and they are excellent and I often LIKE them because I consider them to be of a high standard. I'm sure you got a good deal and I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

I have both the 1d4 and the 7d2 and they are both great camera's and for many people, for many reasons will differ as to which is the best for bird photography. For several years both bodies have proven themselves.
For my bird photography and this is my tried/experimented opinion only the 1d4 is my preferred body. It has a much more reliable AF for focus tracking BIF and produces much more better cleaner files especially in the sky and again my opinion only better at higher ISO’s. The 1D4 has a 1.5x Larger sensor area than 7D2. Larger sensors give you more control on the depth of field and blurry background compared to smaller sensor when shot in same focal length and aperture. So I permanently have it fixed to my 600f4.

My 7d2 gets plenty of use for family/holiday photo's and again I consider to be a superb body. Both crop bodies have been around for some time now and I do believe Canon are slow off the mark but I am holding out for the 7d3 which I think will be a big improvement over both bodies.

I hope your good weather comes soon so you can assess it and I look forward to seeing more of your photo's in the bird forum with either body you use. Best Regards Paul

thanks Paul. i'm surprised that you say the 1D4 tracks better. on paper, the 7D2, with the 1DX technology should be the better tracker?

The 1D4 will drive a lens faster, but the 7D2 isn't that far off for a great focusing machine. The ISO noise will be pretty close as well.

The 7D2 could be considered a 1.6 crop version with more pixel density of the 1.3 crop 1D4, IMO.

It's a 7D ii, and as a bird shooter i will see if it's an upgrade to the 1D4 or not. All i need now is some weather and time but it'll stay on my lenses until i get a fair assessment of it.

I will be interested in how it compares to the 1D4.

I've been shooting the 1D4 for years, and have often wondered if a 7D2 would serve me better. . Friends who have owned both the 7D2 and the 1D4 have told me that I wouldn't be happy with a 7D2 ..... they each got rid of theirs because they didn't like the image quality. . But I'd like other people's insights on this, as well, because I want to at least try to keep an open mind about the options before me.

I guess the thing that is most important to me in a 7D2 / 1D4 comparison is how much fine noise there is at 1600 ISO, especially in dark out-of-focus background areas of the images. . I don't and won't use noise reduction, so my interest is solely on how noisy it is straight out of the camera, not on how well it "cleans up".

Isn't it funny that after all these years, we are still concerned about the same things when it comes to one body vs. another body?

I think that if I were "reach challenged", and often wishing that I could get closer to animals and birds, then the 7D2 would already be in my bag. . But I don't have trouble getting close enough to fill the frame the way I want to, so that one advantage (pixel density) does not apply to my needs.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see which body you prefer for your bird & wildlife shooting.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

thing is Tom, i only plan to use it when i know it'll be a nice day. meaning, i may hardly use high ISO's.
