Hello, I have just posted my first message after lurking for a while, and I ran across a problem that I have not experienced on other vBulletin boards where I am a member. The problem is that when I hit the Enter key twice to start a new paragraph, the board apparently strips out those keystrokes and runs everything into a single, run-on paragraph. On the other vBulletin boards I use, when I start a new paragraph, it shows up with a blank line between it and the paragraph above. For example, this message was four separate paragraphs when I composed it, but look at it now! Clearly I have something set wrong, but I have not seen this before, and I don't know how to fix it. Thanks for your help (paragraph 5!).

Making different paragraphs.

It works for me, I think.

My first message above is an example. It was originally five paragraphs, but now it is one (at least as I see it on my screen. I am going to hit the enter key twice after this sentence. This should be a new paragraph, but instead it follows the previous sentence immediately? ????????

AHA!

I recently updated to Netscape 8.1, and I was wondering if that had something to do with it.

It does. I'm not sure what, but here in Windows Explorer, all is fine.

Oddy, however, the other vBulletin board that I use has no problem with the Netscape 8.1.

Whatever. This is the only machine I use that has Netscape, so it won't be a problem.

Thanks for your replies.

(I just can't stop making paragraphs now!)

It might be some obscure setting somewhere.

I am using firefox at home and IE at work.

In either case I've never seen this issue.

This happens to me sometimes when I post a response. I seem to go into an edit window that is HTML, and it doesn't like carriage returns as a new paragraph. If I feel like it I might insert the HTML code to get what I want, but most of the time I just let it fly. Also, none of the icons like bold or italics work when I have this window.

I have been puzzled by this but tried to ignore it or work around it. Hopefully, someone will drill into it and fix it.

Have Fun,

Rick

In your User CP options..
Go to "Edit Options" .. and scroll way down

try setting "MEssage editor interface" to "Stadard editor - Extra formatting controls"
I've not had problems with this option.. I suspect the issue may be with the "Enhanced full WYSIWYG" option and how some browsers deal with it?

But that's just a guess really...

CyberDyneSystems:

Thanks, I will try that. However, I am in Netscape 8.1 again now, and all seems to be working fine.

Go figure.
