Long overdue. I love it.

No more scrolling down to Level to straighten an image and the back to top again...... I like that.

I would have preferred non-destructive adjustment and image layers and some nice styling filters/adjustments. How about content aware eraser? I guess we will never see Lr grow up to be an all-in-one app that other companies are producing.

Since LR is a parametric developer adding layers and more complex adjustments would only increase lag. Thus my comment. LR was always meant to be a down and dirty basic developer for the DAM and mass edits.

Yes Classic is subscription.

Forgot to add Jake I know you are a C1 user so you wouldn't know this. Adobe introduced Range Mask which is not a complex as layers but it avoids the need to go into PS to use layers in many cases. LR is non destructive. As for styling filters I'm not familiar with them outside of presets, which I have ton of and all free.

You are on Victoria's site regularly. She lists everything Adobe has added in the last year. I forgot mention new camera profiles, LUT's, managing presets, converting presets so the are now shared with ACR and the improved Auto Tone which I use all of the time now.

Sure I agree that perhaps LR might be lacking a few things that only use one program like competitors have. Adobe hasn't been sitting around in the last year after Classic was introduced which is the only reason I responded. Try a few competitors and one may better suit your needs.

Classic means that it is the old style full install on essentially one computer, since moving the catalogue around is difficult. It's the version that would be most familiar to those who have been using Lr since before the subscription model was introduced It's official name is Lr CC Classic, and is also known as Version 8. The "new" net centric version now known as Lr CC which is still an installed program transfers all of the images and catalogue data to the Adobe servers, although allowing you to keep local copies too. This is far closer to most peoples idea of a cloud computing system. In both cases though the program is paid for using Adobe's Creative Cloud subscription service. It would seem that you can actually use both Lr CC and Lr CC Classic separately with one Lr subscription payment, but it is probably not a good idea to mix them on the same physical computer. Lr CC has pretty much full integration to Lr mobile, and the web app which is great. But if you are going to use it it is probably best to turn any Lr CC Classic integration you have set off, so that you don't get conflicts.

I as well suggest not to run both Classic and LR CC on the same device and this is based on blogs by Victoria Brampton and others. If you choose to sync Classic it sends smart previews to the cloud while LR CC sends the actual files automatically. People work around it and you have to be careful how to manage that. I can’t say in detail as I never installed LR CC.

What are styles Alan. I did a quick search but didn’t really find anything. I’m only familiar with camera profiles and presets. I also have DXO PL and haven’t seen anything called Styles.

No need. I looked it up for PS. Same thing. Layer styles, preset styles, etc. I thought it was something special.

I remember reading somewhere in all the documents that Adobe recommends to use PS for advanced editing. I can't find it but I came across this. Both LR and PS have separate jobs.
