Does either the 80D or the 800D have a confirming red dot or dots where the focus will be taken from, through the view finder and where the focus was taken from in a review photo? I have both a 40D and a 550D, the 40D does have this feature while the 550D does not. Useful to see if you have nailed spot focus, especially 40D, for sports photography 40D has higher keep rate than 550D. The target is better identified with the 40D. Asking this question as considering an upgrade to either 80D or 800D.

Thanks for reply. Will have to wait for a 800d owner. This lack of red light feature with 550d even tonight reared its ugly head when trying to track photo some track runners in a 1500 metres and discus events. Athletes blurred. 15% discard rate due to out of focus. 40d about 5%.

Much appreciated. I did find on review site that camera in playback mode will show focus points used, but this is not the business end of the camera. Red light focus point important for speedy line up of fast moving targets.

Page 78 from the T7i/800D manual seems to indicate that focus confirmation is available.

Does not seem to do that on my 800D, when focus is achieved the points turn square but don't turn red.

Might be on the USA version, but seems not on the UK version.

I don't think Canon makes two versions except for the exterior labeling. Also, from the Canon Europe website (https://www.canon-europe.com …/eos-800d/specifications/ (external link)) specifications on the 800D, this is stated

Viewfinder Information
AF information: AF points, focus confirmation, AF area selection mode

In addition, I see from the online manual, specifically on page 394 (C.Fn-9) the following:

When AI Servo AF is set, the AF points will not light up in red even when focus is achieved.

The online manual is at http://gdlp01.c-wss.com …s-rebelt7i-800d-im-en.pdf (external link).

See page 121 "AF Points Lighting Up in Red"

By default, the AF points light up in red when focus is achieved in low-light conditions or on a dark subject. In Creative Zone modes, you can set whether to have the AF points light up in red when focus is achieved (p.394).

From page 394 C.Fn-9 you can enable the custom function and then "The AF points light up in red regardless of the ambient light level."

Thanks for replies. Probably all 100 series Canons do not have red dot focus confirm or confirmation. Perhaps all 0 series do. Was waiting to see if 90d was going to be released as this would affect price of other 0 series cameras. A further consideration for upgrade camera is PC you own. My windows 7 32 bit has memory problems trying to save 21 mg files from 550d in Lightroom. A larger megapixel camera will only magnify the problem.
