I have my 5D MKIV set to record RAW on the CF card and JPEG on the SD card. When I shoot video clips they only show up on the SD card. Is there a setting to make the video record to the CF card by default? That's typically my faster card so I prefer video files going to the CF. I don't see anything obvious unless I'm going crazy. Thanks.

In case you're wondering what those settings might be...

Thanks. Somehow I missed that in the manual.

What I learned since previous post:

I had playback card set properly all the time. What the camera does is cancel that out and revert to the other slot if you take the default playback card out with the camera powered up (which is how I always work). If you power down and then remove the designated playback card it will continue to remain the playback card as set.

That's because the camera is designed to be as ready to shoot as ever possible. So if you tell it to use a card that's not there, it will revert to the other card, if they is any other card available.
Don't close the door while you change card, and you may circumvent the problem.

Don't close the memory card door while the default recording card is removed and the setting shouldn't revert to the remaining card.

Update:

I had the camera set properly. What was throwing my analysis off was sometimes when I pulled out the card I would also take out the battery to charge it. In this case everything stayed as I set them. When I wouldn’t take out the battery but took out the card the camera would change preferences. Thanks for the comments on leaving card door open but I prefer not to do that (or leave battery door open too - both are somewhat delicate and I’m the cautious type).

But if you open the card door, remove the used card, insert a new card and close the door, what's the peril involved in that?

The camera, if it has a battery and thus power, will re-evaluate the card slots each time the card door is closed, regardless of whether the camera is "on" or not. So no, if you have the camera off, and you remove a card and close the door, it will not stay on that card slot any longer, it will move to the other slot if there is a card there.

I leave the card slot door open with the camera on a table after every game, just so I don't have to go through the menus to reset the record-to slot. It isn't that delicate.

I just got in the habit of closing all doors on my cameras as I have a cat that loves to jump up on my desk at times while I'm working. She knocked a lens over once but I caught it as it was rolling off. Never got to test the famed L lens durability.

Then Anders suggestion is a good one, just keep one card in the reader and one in the camera, when you need images off, just swap the cards and close the door.

Pull the battery before anything is done with the cards. Another good method.

From now on I simply pull the battery and top it off when I pull a card. Previously I randomly pulled the battery and as I previously stated that was fouling up my analysis since I wouldn't necessarily shoot video files every time. It appeared to be totally random in nature. Now I know. Thanks to all for the lively debate.
