I think you got it right on. I switched over to Smugmug about 10 years ago. Back then Flickr has some limited abilities to customize your site, organization, etc. Smugmug was far ahead in that area. Not sure where Flickr stands now. Also, I think back then on Flickr you could share all your photos or hide all your photos with no in between. On Smugmug I'm able to hide my site from searches. Which controlled access to just friends and family I gave the address out to and kept my stuff out of web search engines. Again, not sure where Flickr stands now with their options.

Aah, interesting, thanks. Do you have the basic $50/yr plan? If you're able to give the address out for family/friends to access, that would work for me. I do like the integration smugmug has with LR.

The basic $50/yr plan is the one I have. Crazy to think when I opened the account 10 years ago they were charging $40/yr. Not much change in the fee over the years. The LR integration is very slick.

Sharing with family..... Well 0 of them are on Flickr... So Facebook. Sure, Flickr has better IQ, but if it's a hassle for the intended audience, why bother?

For forum use the upload feature, or don't share.

I agree with the flickr comment, and same goes for smugmug. So I finally had to break down and go for Face Book. I'm only connected with my family members and control who can see posts and such. When I have a batch of pics, I share one or two of the good ones and post a link to the gallery on sugmug. From there my peeps can check out all the photos, down load the full res files, order prints, etc. etc. Works really well.

That's a good point, though I'm trying very hard to avoid getting sucked into Facebook's vortex. It may ultimately be impossible, but we'll see...

That's good to hear that the price has remained so consistent. It seems like Smugmug may be the best way to go, knowing I can share a link to an album with my family, friends, etc. Thanks again for the info

bannedPermanently

I simply use File Manager (Finder) on my iMac to organise photos in Year/Month/Event folders. All RAW files are initially dumped into the Event folder and given a first-pass cull, deleting obviously bad images.

Then I create a 'JPEGS' sub folder within the Event folder. My PP is simple, all performed in ACR, with processed images saved in that 'JPEGS' folder, using their original filename. I will cull more images as I process them, when closer examination reveals a problem.

Next step is to create another sub folder for 'Resized' copies, because my photos are mostly used for online viewing and sharing. I resize using DPP because I find its batch processor easy to use and reliable.

That's it. I would typically process several hundred images from each event this way, probably ending up with about 100 acceptable images.

All of this takes place on an external SSD, which is duplicated on a second SSD subsequently.

I recently, under duress, took out a subscription for Photoshop CC, having used CS5 for many years. I am now trying to figure out what LR is for, other than file organisation. It appears to have functionality similar to ACR but I'm not sure why.

I organize my file tree in finder/explorer by YEAR>DATE>RAW/Full Size

Raw is for RAWS and Full size is for the exports
