Gear Insurance?

Hey all. I'm pondering whether or not I should insure my photography gear. I have about $6,000 worth of almost new gear and I'm kinda paranoid about the possible "what if's." Do any of you insure your gear? If so through who and how much is it usually a month? I can't imagine it being that much. Normally I wouldn't worry but photography gear is a hot item and when you own a white lens or two you know people are thinking how nice it would be to own that. Or maybe I worry too much.

I am also looking into this as well, just haven't had a chance to call up my agent.
But check out this post https://photography-on-the.net …38238&highlight=insurance
and do a search for insurance, there are multiple threads on this.

Insure it!!!!

It's only a few extra quid on top of your home insurance. Just be sure to read the small print, i.e. where you are insured and for how long.

Here its just impossible. No company will insure 20/30K USD worth of equipment covering also the use outside the house. In other words, it useless and pricey.

My Glock 26 is the best insurance I can have.

Insurance, in Southern California at least, is affordable. Cost me under $2 per hundred. So, your $6000 in camera gear can be insured for around $115/year @ zero deductable.

BTW, Rob, you make a compelling argument. Perhaps I can tuck a G23 in my toploader?:)

Really, you can't get an insurance for that? Strange. I can imagine that there are a lot of pro photographers, and probably also people in entirely different areas, who use expensive equipment for their job. Strange that it wouldn't be possible to insure that equipment.

It depends a lot on in which country you live and which insurance company you're using. I have a special insurance for expensive equipment, which covers it around the world, so I can take my stuff whereever I like. The gear is worth maybe around $6,000 and the insurance costs about $30 a month or so. (I'm not a pro; if I were, this insurance wouldn't apply).

Absolutely NOT. The place for the G23 is IWB or OWB whatever you like and feel more comfortable ar around 3- 3:30 o'clock.

Drawing from a toploader can be too slow ;)

No way here. Just recently one of our photography magazines had an article (nothnig new for me I already have checked myself) on the matter and they stopped exactly at the same point. In this country you cannot insure your camera, no company will do it. And nobody knows why.
