Hi all -- I am thinking of leaving Flickr, but it's where I link all the photos I share on POTN. Can someone tell me about other places or ways to link photos? I prefer not to upload directly to the site. Thanks for any help!

I can understand not wanting to upload, but after what photobucket did to us, I wish that I'd uploaded all of mine!

You can create a separate folder on your website and host them there.

I upload them to my website/server and just link from there. That way you know that they will be there until you decide otherwise. The one thing to make sure though is that you upload a file that meets the forums size limits or (with Wordpress for example) have the site create thumbnails that are the right size.

Thanks so much for the feedback! I have a Zenfolio account, so I will see how I can share from there. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks again! :)

Yeah, that is definitely the best way to go. . When you upload directly to this site, your posted photos are always here and will never disappear. . If you link from something like Zenfolio, then if at some point you let your Zenfolio account lapse, the photos you posted will disappear from POTN. . That would suck for people who come back to read threads and see photos in the future.

The other problem is that if you link to a Zenfolio (or other) site, and then rearrange your images on that site, the links to here will be broken and either no photo will show up or the wrong photo will show up. . That sucks real bad, too.

POTN already has a lot of missing photos in the deep archives. . Let's try to make this situation better, not worse.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I think it is something of a stretch to believe that a web forum is any more likely than a photo sharing site to be around for the long term.
The site might be sold, or Pekka may go off to become a yak farmer, or he may create a sentient AI forum that decides all our images are rubbish and should be deleted.
